The man makes a lot of sense. I agree with you on the fanboy issues, its weird how liking something automatically makes you a fanboy. I think that hating the other systems, as you said, is the main recipe for fanboyism. Its basically an emotional tie verses a logical or reasonable one. That's why you can't argue with them. One cannot argue with someone that is by definition, unreasonable.bmdubya wrote:I don't really like fanboys. I think some might label me as a Xbox fanboy, but the reason why I like it so much is because it has the games I like on it, and I really like Xbox Live. I don't hate Sony or Nintendo. If I had the money, I would have all three consoles, but since I can only afford one right now, I got a 360. I may look like a fanboy with the Xbox logo in my avatar, but I really am not. I can't stand the people though that are insane fanboys, like buying PS3s so they can smash them and video tape it. That is ridiculous.
Ok with that aside, I don't understand what the big deal is about making it easy or hard to develop games for consoles. I'm sure that all three of the consoles aren't just really easy to develop for, but not like insane. But like Break said, the PS3 may never have to use all of its power to run a game. If it did, it may be towards the end of the life cycle when developers have been working with it 5+ years.
One last thing, I have been wondering about the way the Xbox is built. The thing that I did to fix my Xbox was take the "x"-clamps off that is holding the heatsinks onto the mother board and replaced them with my own screws. The thing about the "x"-clamps were when the heatsinks got hot, it made the spacer between the "x"-clamps and the motherboard become obsolete and put pressure on the motherboard, causing a bend in it. I am wondering if Microsoft did this on purpose so that people's consoles would fail and they would have to get them fixed.
The x-clamp thing is also fascinating. I've always been really into the hardware of consoles, and PCs for that matter. The x-clamp issue is probably just another example of the bad engineering on the console (loud drive, loud fans, using a jet engine to add noise, crashing consoles, overheating heatsinks, etc.) It does make one wonder if the clamp is designed to be some sort of time-bomb to make people buy a new console after a while. Stranger things have happened. Best case scenerio is that it is just bad design, as I have been preaching that the loud noise of the console was indicitive of, and that it is another annoyance for the console.
The sad thing is that this does make the gaming part of the console worse. Whether it renders it unable to turn on or just louder than a speeding locomotive, it takes away from the experience. Hacking has really run amuck on XBL too. On College Hoops 2k7 people have hacked it so their players never miss shots. Half-court 3? GOOD! Every fucking time. More things keep cropping up to make me not play the system. In the end, though, its all about the games so I hope they have some good exclusives coming down the pipe. I'll definitely be playing the multiconsolre releases on my quiet and reliable Ps3.
