FFIII. Anyone complaining about that?

And for the record, MIDI is a language that defines what notes are played and how they're played, not the quality of the sounds. I could put recorded samples strung together and done right, run through MIDI, it would still sound fantastic. Point is, perhaps it would be more accurate to say it'll have PS1-level sound, and that's really not so bad, is it? Remember FFVII, FFVIII, Legend of Dragoon? Yeah.

(Yes I know I'm being picky, but as many times as Vamp has gotten on my case for little shit, I felt I owed him one.) :P

DS also isn't less powerful than the N64...SM64DS could easily prove that.

People aren't complaining about FFIII being on DS, but they sure as hell would be if FF13 was going to be on it instead of on PS3. Furthermore, FFIII wasn't turned into a multiplayer oriented action RPG. And if not midi, then "soundboard music", not orchestrated at all (again a huge dissapointment if you've heard what DQ8 had to offer).

Mericks, DS is less powerful than N64, and using SM64 as the benchmark for both is a really poor idea (it didn't look very good on N64 relative to several very notable games). Nothing on DS looks near the level of Majora's Mask or Perfect Dark. DS really only has about as much power as PS1 except with a hardware Z-buffer and a few other hardware graphics tricks like cel-shading in real-system performance. More importantly N64's texture smoothing and anti-aliasing, part of what made the system's low-resolution textures halfway bearable, are non-existent on DS.

"Nothing on DS looks near the level of Majora's Mask or Perfect Dark."

Uh...MM came out at the very end of the console's life...I never played PD. So THOSE aren't fair comparisons. Everyone knows that graphics don't cap out till the end of console lives.

I bet you also truly believe the PSP can really present PS2 level graphics too.

"More importantly N64's texture smoothing and anti-aliasing, part of what made the system's low-resolution textures halfway bearable, are non-existent on DS."

Also, that's not a problem of the system's power, it's a problem of a game being compressed to a small screen. If you shrink ANYTHING in size, jaggies do show up.

Also, the SM64/DS comparison is VERY fair. They were both games that were there on day 1 of launch, and they take place in the exact same setting and everything, not to mention that the game on the DS has more things included on it than the 64 version did.

That's exactly the problem. I don't want next DQ to be fun, I want it to be epic.

Mericks how the hell long has DS been out again? How many games has it turned out that were near the quality of Majora's Mask and Perfect Dark. It's not like the DS came out yesterday.

And yes I have to agree with Verence. The game WAS fun enough on its own, but it was extremely epic. I loved the overworld music. :/

Just because devs haven't done it doesn't mean it can't be done. By your logic the Wii should at least have several games of Xbox quality right now. The fact of the matter is, it depends on the devs to make the games push system limits. There's not a button they push to make an all knowing angel fall from the heavens to make it of uber quality.

If I had ever played PD I might be able to answer the question better though.

I'm just using that as an example. The specs themselves lend themselves to N64 being the more powerful system.

Well forgive me if I don't take your word for it since the DS already beat N64's graphical capabilities at launch with its launch games, and a year later it came with an online compatibility, not to mention that little card already held a shitload more than that cartridge did on the N64, unless Nintendo was TRYING to be lazy with SM64.

That's just it though: launch games aren't an indicator. If that were the case, one would assume all PS2 games look as bad as Unreal Tournament did on the system.

Also, the cards only hold 128mb maximum, hardly a "shitload" more then the 64mb maximum of N64's carts.

They are making liek a Final Fantasy XII-2 for the DS too.
I don't WANT a DS. :(
They at least also are putting Crisis Core on PSP though.

Yeah, they're making FFXII: Revenant Wings.

I plan on enjoying it, but less so than FFXII. :P
