I just finished watching it all the way through.. Was anyone else dissapointed? I thought the story and character arcs were incredibly shallow and not even close to standing up to FFVII. I kinda felt miffed.

The visuals were amazing, and I loved seeing the characters but it all just seemed so shallow to me. Granted, the action scenes were great, but I was expecting a good story to add to FFVII.

I'm not saying this movie was horrendous, but I really feel like it was a bit of a let down. FFVII's story was so incredibly complex that they had so many opportunities to add something to part of it for 90 minutes. I just felt like they tried to throw all the characters at me, for little reason a lot of times, and find ways to have good fight scenes.

Music good, visuals good, story bad. That's basically how I'd put it.

I watched my imported copy just recently as well. I thought it rocked, actually. Story and all, but I do feel there could have been a little more to it. Otherwise, I felt it was a welcome addition.

I viewed it as if the game never stopped. As if the movie kicked in on its opening scene where it shows up as the end FMV in the game and just went on from there. It seems all a lot better that way; you don't feel like it's been the eight years in between, and the story being tied to the game that way, it makes it even more enjoyable -- it doesn't seem so fast paced that it throws the characters at you.

The game was written by Hironobu Sakaguchi and Tetsuya Nomura. Sakaguchi having left, Nomura was the only one left and wrote/designed the movie's storyline as well (I don't remember if it was credited, but I know that he did). I think that helped more wonders than one would think, having it not written by at least one of the original authors probably would have had it totally fucking suck no matter the visuals.

I thought the fact that they didn't make it totally realistic a good thing. Sure, the clothing worked well, the hair was well done, the enviroments and the textures were absolutely stunning (probably an understatement), and also the fact that they purposely made it look almost like a game all on its own... A wise move, Square-Enix.

I found the entire movie pretty much "fan service" except for the two dozen minutes as Tyler said on the Game Show. I liked the storyline too, and I give it an entirely enthusiastic thumbs up vote. I've waited eight years for this and I damn well enjoyed it.

Last Order rocked as well. It's nothing we don't already know, and I liked it mainly because it was anime and that I got to watch that whole time without interruptions. The DVD for it, though not licensed in America (with no plan, as far as I'm aware to do so), it actually comes with English subtitles that are very well done.

Also on the DVD for Last Order is an overview of the game (scenes recorded, compiled, and edited into a 40 minute segment), and it was wonderful to reminisce about old times without having to go through the somewhat tedious three disc game on your own. Though I do admit the sidequests weren't on it (like Wutai and stuff), which a lot of them I loved...

Two thumbs up.

I deleted everything I had on my PSP to make room for the highest quality version of FFVII:AC I could fit on my 1 gb memory stick. That's all I need, baby.

i gotta say that the Spirits Within was the most depressing movie i ever saw.

1 guy dying is fine. the bad guys(spirits) killing EVERYONE is ridiculous though. They need to take Final Fantasy name off of that abortion.

I agree. The only thing I found enjoyable about "the Spirits Within" was the actual production quality, (ie. the graphics and such) it really had nothing to do with Final Fantasy in any way shape or form, as for Advent Children goes.. amazing. fun to watch. I love it ;)
