Nostalgia has something to do with it. Playing the NES durring my childhood was some of the best memories I have durring that time.
Part of it is my dislike of PS2 (I do have a few PS2 games though) and X-Box.
Part of it is a sort of rebellion against my dad because my dad very much dislikes Japanese made products and really doesn't like it when I watch TV or play video games. Sometimes I have to play video games in secret because if I get caught playing I'll get in trouble. I remember I got caught playing SNES once and my dad got so furious he ripped the SNES from the TV and threw it on the floor. Needless to say, my SNES never worked again. Even today, when I play, if I hear anyone approaching, I have to immediately turn off the TV and act like I'm reading something. Funny thing is, I'm now 20 year old. How pathetic is that? But, such is the way of strict Korean parenting. Thankfully, I will be moving out this Fall.
But really, for me, the biggest factor of my loyalty to Nintendo comes from the consistent quality of their products. Most importantly, the quality of their games, the innovation that they bring with every title, and how fun the game is to play. More than any other company out there, I believe Nintendo exemplifies this. More than any other company, I believe Nintendo has pushed video games and video game making into and art form. Yes, Nintendo is a company. Yes, they're here to make money. But especially with this generation of consoles, I'm seeing a Nintendo that going against the flow of the rest of the industry. Nintendo is not following trends. Instead, they make their own. I'm not concerned with visual aesthetics, processing power, or even online capabilities. As I said before I'm more concerned about fun factor and innovation. If that means I have to sacrafice manliness and play games that involve washing walls, grabbing happy face sunshine emblems, and playing games that look like cartoons, then so be it.
