First impression of BF:V: "HELL YA!"
Very pretty, it feels like a cross between BF1942, DC, and Call of Duty. It's a lot harder to see people hiding in all the grass and stuff, which makes advancing kindof hairy. Might cause a camping problem, but I doubt it. The jets and helos are nice, a little easier to fly than DC. It's the perfect sequel: people familiar with the old can jump right in and know what to do, but it's different enough that it doesn't feel like a cheap expansion pack. Awesome graphics, and sound. Don't really care for oldies music myself, but I'll get used to it. So, back to the game for me, more thoughts later, once I unscramble them. As for UT, haven't even installed it yet, lol. I'll get to it.

Didn't see your post until today Jack, but I was the one who picked up BF: Vietnam with a dog in his arms. Dunno if that was you or not.
Now, I had a really busy and tumultuous day yesterday so I actually didn't get to play it as much as I had hoped. However... I have to give my first impressions as well.
All I can say is wow. I really like the overgrowth/undergrowth system. Half the time I had no idea where I was even killed from. The graphics I must say are phenomenal. I had been hearing problems about ATI chipsets having problems with BFV but my 9700Pro has no problems.
When you play this game you really have to rethink the strategies you learned in BF42. The days of the 1 man flag capturer, in my opinion, are over. I only played a couple of maps, but one that I landed had the F4 Phantom. I snagged that baby and yes oh yes oh yes, HEAT SEEKING MISSLES. Hey I see a Mig. Bam. Dead. There's another. Dead. Racked up 6 kills in a matter of seconds.
Once I play some more I'll let you guys know what else I find. Just one bit of advice: When playing as the Vietnamese, the scooter is NOT the preferred vehicle to rush a flag with, even though you sure feel ballsy doing it!

Thanks Realm. Afrotect and I came up with that yesterday. We're big fans of it anyhow.
Who wants to play some BF:Vietnam tonight? My roommate and I will be going from about 5:30 until we can't keep our eyes open anymore.

I'll be pulling a late night tonight as well, since tomorrow I'm just riding in the back of a van to Colorado. (of all the times for a ski trip! right after BF and UT are released, dammitall!) So anyway, I'll love to join in. (might not be able to till around 7 though) How will I locate you online? We'll have to set up a Roger Wilco channel as well.

Well I figure once I find a pretty decent server I'll drop in here and post the IP. Sadly, however, I run a TeamSpeak server.. not Roger Wilco, but I'll post the IP for that tonight as well.
I don't get off work until 5 so I'll probably get everything posted up around 6ish. But seriously with a small group of us working together... we'll be able to tear it up.

Teamspeak works, I've got that too. I'll eagerly await your postage tonight. (this is gonna rock if we get enough people!)

Oh btw, the game won't allow me to enable Punkbuster, which sucks 'cause 2/3 of the servers have PB enabled. It just says "Failed to enable Punkbuster" or some such nonsense. Can anyone tell me why this is? I can't figure it out. Or if I can't get it fixed by tonight, could we possibly play on a non-PB server?

Hmmm that's interesting. When I installed I just installed the game itself and Punkbuster not anything else, and I haven't had a problem, nor did my roomie. As technically savvy as this sounds... you might just try reinstalling. Let us know if you're still having problems and we'll find a non-PB server.

by me, Realm
Aight, PB is up and running. I had a corrupt install the first time or something 'cause it wouldn't let me install/uninstall, and then when I tried it deleted my registry. Anyhoo, after a little chat with EA support (quick and friendly, I was surprised) I got it all straightened out. Battlefield Vietnam is now running in all its Punkbuster glory, and I will see you boys in a couple hours!

Awes. The TeamSpeak IP is: 24.124.81.58
Just log onto that and we'll tell ya the IP of the server we're in. Sometimes it takes a while to find one.

We're playing at 151.153.178.77 if you guys want to join in. My teamspeak isn't working for some reason so if you guys have a teamspeak server we can connect to let us know and we'll give that a try. See you in game!!!

Richie and I couldn't get TeamSpeak to work at all, and Roger Wilco only poorly. Couldn't connect to the IP, so we played a little la Drang and Hue. Sorry it didn't work, there's hardly a point without voicechat though. I hope they put that in a patch, like CS, it would simplify things a bunch. That and tone down the Americans' M-60.
