the BmX boards, a bright oasis in a desert of forums

Post by Realm »

Recently getting reprimanded on another forum has made me realize again how awesome these boards are. Break's stance on free speech is a breath of cool air in a hot dusty desert of stuffy admins and power-happy moderators. I called a guy a dumbass, because he was being a dumbass, and the thread got locked, my post got deleted, and I got chewed out. It was deemed "slander" and "excessive flaming." It's sure nice to have forums like this one that take a much more laid-back approach to things, knowing that most arguments solve themselves over time, and that profanity is a tool of speech that is especially useful in the written word. Writing is handicapped by the lack of so many important communicative tools like facial expression and tone of voice, and profanity is very useful for emphasis and expression of emotion. I also like that many threads on this forum are an ongoing conversation rather than a series of perfectly polite little essays, and an off-hand unmalicious insult isn't taken as a blasphemy. Thanks to the admins and mods of this forum, and specifically the policies and attitudes set by Break, this is absolutely one of the coolest forums out there. Alright dumbasses, I'm done ranting.

I prefer the Penny Arcade boards myself.

The PA boards are too busy for me, it's crazy. I lurk there every now and then when I want to find some info. And ya flaming gets old, but then, define flaming. Dipshit.

Heh heh, yeah I am glad we have these boards too. People on the Galaxies boards are REALLY uptight. No bueno. Realm what are you playin' these days? Still rocking the rice patties of Vietnam?

I've been so fricken busy lately I haven't had much time for games. Any time on the computer is spent downloading E3 and Half-Life 2 videos. Plus I was gone all weekend. So about the only games I've played lately is some Halo multiplayer and a litte UT. Gonna start kicking some BF ass again this week, and maybe try to wrap up Painkiller.

Thanks Realm, I appreciate not only your compliment, but your full understanding of how I intend people use these forums. If only everyone could pick up on it.. I would be a happy Break.

These are indeed good forums. I don't care for many of the other ones because they're just too busy, and most of it's crap, people wining or flaming, so you have to sift through all of it to get anything good. A little more traffic here wouldn't hurt though. Great job.
