Here's and interesting and amusing article. I don't really agree with everything the guy says, but he does bring up a few interesting points.

Kinda cool. I don't think the video game industry will crash though. Even though the graphics aren't getting better, we as humans get tired of what we have, so we'll buy new stuff to replace it. I mean how many "innovations" have their been in movies lately? I mean you see the Matrix and the "bullet time" then everyone does it, and it's old news. We still go to see movies. I know at least for me, game buying won't stop until organ theives steal my hands.

I would be worried, maybe, if it weren't for the Nintendo DS. I'm making my prediction right now: The successor to the DS will stomp the SHIT out of EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING. PS3, X-Box2, even the N5. In the future, all that will be left is PC, GBA, and DS.
This is half-assed, insane prediction was brought to you by The Siege.
Perhaps I should expound on why? Ok, here goes:
PC: FPS and online gaming, plus everyone needs a PC to begin with. FPS on console is great, but remember the consoles won't be worth shit anymore, right? The mouse+keyboard are the optimal setup for playing an FPS of any kind, and online gaming is optimal over the PC, because the PC is already designed to be a network oriented device to begin with (incidentally, FPS may be possible on the DS using the stylus and touch screen, but no one has ever tried this so it may or may not work).
GBA: The lightweight. Cheap, small, fun. For the person who just wants to play simple, 2D games. The GBA will have a market because the DS will be bigger and more complex, and more expensive. Simple.
DS: The DS planned already can support N64 level graphics. It's not a stretch to imagine it's successor will look just as good if not better than the X-Box and Gamecube. So instead of buying an extra console that supports slightly better graphics, people can just buy a cheap, AV cable accessory and plug their DS right into their TV. Who needs a lunky console when you can have a portable, console, and controller all in one? This is bound to happen eventually, even if the DS does not catch on, graphics will hit a wall and the GBA will catch up, and then there will be no reason to own the consoles anymore.
Not to mention the touch screen and wireless LAN interface. Eventually entire cities will be blanketed in 802.11G wireless internet access (this is already being developed in California), so the DS will be able to tap into those and serve as an online device as well.
