So who is winning the system war?
So who is winning the system war?
Of course everyone has there favorite system, and say that it is the best out there. By the numbers playstation 2 is truly in the lead followed by who u ask nintendo or xbox. Reguardless based on financials it seems no one manufacture of systems are racking in the billions upon billions of dollars. So who is? With all these financial reports of th gaming industry being worth X amount of billion someone must be making that?
Pondering this for awhile it seems the true winner of the system wars seems to be third party publishers. Even more so EA out of all the software companies seem to benefit the most. EA without a doubt has walked away more financially ahead from the next-gen systems.

publishers and third party accessory makers will ALWAYS beat out the first parties for money made. Nobody makes any money on a game system (except maybe Nintendo so they say). The money is made in games and accessories. As for which publisher is making the killing, I have no idea. EA would be very high on the list, as would Vivendi (though they are apparently morons and promote games that suck) and Atari (though they are morons as well: Atari's financial genius) ... it would be neat to see those numbers for all games, but that would probably take a while to compile as the major third party companies have many different titles out there on multiple systems.
people are dumb

It really depends on who you ask. There really are no *actual* numbers out there. I think perception-wise though, (at least here in the US and Europe) it's:
1. PS2
2. Xbox
3. GC
However, the situation is quite different in Japan, where people regard the Xbox as a foreign (and therefore uncool/evil) product, so they avoid it like the plague. Overall, I have no clue, but I believe that Nintendo has a slim margin over Xbox overall, simply because the Xbox cannot sell over in Japan. In the US and European markets however, the Xbox is beating the GC.

I disagree that the GCN has a "slight" leadn in JPN. The perception over there of N is less than it used to be, but would lay the Xbox to waste in a perception war.
The US position? PS2, Xbox, then GCN by the number and perception.
Who's actually winning? Not the consumer that's for sure. Each system has KILLER games. But not the average gamer can or will shell out a buttload for more systems, controllers, memory, etc. Third parties realize this and will eventually stop supporting the least cooperative company's system (which right now would toally be Nintendo). But luckily for N, they are blessed by titels like Zelda, MArio, Metroid, Mario Golf, Party, Tennis, Paint, Gardening, Carpenty and all of its other iterations I've lost track of.

Feel happy. Pee.
Fuck not this discussion again. There is no "winning" of any "war." MG's right in that you can only really judge these things by public perception, or maybe numbers, but imho, it's the games that should make the difference. And, also, imho, each system has great games and no one system outweighs the other. If you want to go by companies, yes, I favor certain ones because some are more evil than others, but in the end, what matters the most about a system is the games on it. Each system has great games, so I don't see any one system as "winning" anything.
by no means it was a system bashing type thread. Considering from the financials from within the last few years no one system manufacture is truly walking away with billions. If you remember from the last 3 way system war, yes there was a casuality from it.But on a flipside NEC was killing in japan. From all the talk of "future" projections they have the videogame industry to significantly grow over the years.Yes sony does lead in systems out there, but for the amount of systems to the amount money made it is pretty shocking . The money to be made isnt in the systems but in the software.
