So, as an early birthday present to myself, I went to Topeka on New Year's Eve and got a Radeon 9800 Pro XT card. Yes, the $500 one.
Man, it is amazing. I can run Max Payne 2 1600x1200 with 8 sample AA and Anisotropic filtering, and it runs full 60 fps even in full combat with shit flying everywhere. Deus Ex 2 runs about a constant 40 on 1024x768 (man is it a resource hog), and Halo runs 60 fps with everything on at 1280x1024. Man, this thing kicks ass....bring on Call of Duty, Doom 3, STALKER, and HL2!!!!

Now my friends, I have the XT's counterpart: the GeForce FX 5900 256! MWA HA! I will soon be creaming over my screen, so steer clear.

Re: MY precious
Ohh snap, but the upcomming FX 5950 is the true counterpart (or arch-nemisis if you will) to the 9800XT.Afrotect wrote:Now my friends, I have the XT's counterpart: the GeForce FX 5900 256! MWA HA! I will soon be creaming over my screen, so steer clear.
Also, it is unlikely, but not unpossible, that we'll see any new Video cards from ATI or Nvidia until their next generation, which wont be for atleast a few months (besides the said FX 5950).

From what I've heard, ATI and nVidia are pushing to get their next-gen cards out before Doom 3 and especially Half-Life 2. nVidia is going to try to finally counter all the ATI ownage with DX9 shit.
Kind of makes you wonder.... did nVidia hack Valve? Hmmm...
