Favorite LOTR Character

Post by Silviar »

Allright, so I was wondering which character you guys like the most from Lord of the Rings. Include examples from the movie and/or books if you'd like. This also could include bitching about the movies or what the movies lacked, iyo. Anything goes.

My personal favorite is Aragorn, although I like so many of the characters it's hard to pick just one. I like Aragorn because I think that he has a power and presence in the book and movie that noone else has. When he speaks, others listen. He's an amazing ranger and the storyline of him finally accepting who he is and ascending to the throne is something that appeals to me. We all have personal demons that we have to accept as part of ourself. And when it comes down to it, who'd want to be pristine in an all-good sense anyways? We need a balance in our lives that too many miss because they're so focused on one side or the other. Life and situations are not as simple as a yes or no.

Aragorn is honorable, kind, strong-willed, and a kick ass fighter. And courageous. I only wish more people had the power of mind to act as he does in life instead of skulking around in a mental miasma of self-pity, and instead did something to figure out themselves and the situation at hand.

Aragorn's Poem

All that is gold does not glitter
Not all those who wander are lost.
The old that is strong does not whither.
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire will be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring.
Renewed shall be blade that was broken.
The crownless again shall be king.

Ok, I know this is going to pretty much blow most of you away but...

I've never read 'em.

I saw the second movie once.

And I hated it.

I wanted to leave but someone else was my ride.

Let the flame-war begin.

I've only started reading the books.

From the films, my favorite character is Legolas because he's so bad ass. I know, I know...typical. They never really developed his character much, but durring battle, he was amazing. Besides Legolas, maybe my other favorite is Gandalf.

Yes, I have alot of work to do before I can become a true fan.

Yankee, since you are a Battlefield 1942 fan, I'll abstain from flame, but do not underestimate the seriousness of your comments.

I have read the books, including the Hobbit, and part of the Silmarillion. I can't honestly choose a favorite character, they're all so varied and colorful. Ya Legolas is a badass fighter. Gandalf is too with his dual staff-and-sword fighting. I think all the actors did awesome jobs of portraying their characters, especially Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and Christopher Lee (Saruman). One last note: my avatar is Gollum, which is not favoritism by any means, it's just my fascination with demented people.
I have spoken.

Sam...

Sam is a true friend, something very hard to find in this world. He sacrifices everything for Frodo. He isn't in it to save the world, he is in it to save his friend. He cares for Frodo like only a true friend would, and I think there needs to be more friends like him in the world. All the characters overcome adversity within themselves, but Sam is fully transformed by this experience. It shows just how much good can be in a persons heart.
Puppets, holding the scissors of freedom, are still powerless to cut the strings of opression. That is to say, once a puppet, always a puppet.

I just saw LOTR3 like 20 minutes ago (look at post time) and i must say that it was extremly good.

As realm said, it is hard to choose. gollum is funny talking to himself, and making fun of sam. Legolas and aragorn cool because they are kick ass fighters. Gandolf is indeed crazy with the staff-sword combo figthing. All the hobbits, did various things, like fighting and the extremly hard struggle with the ring.

and you ppl forgot someone, Gimli. what, because he is a dwarf he gets no respect? Well, he ain't getting any from me!

jk, he's cool with his axe chopping ppl.

And the witch king, he is crazy! Ringwraiths are insane, with those Dragon-like things flyin' around picking up ppl and throwing them, very cool.

I'm gonna have to go with Gimli, because he is short, hot, and kicks ass (or something I heard earlier). This might have something to do with my facination with short peoples in MMORPIGS, but you all will have to deal with it.

tree-freakin-beard man. i love the ents, i think they are by far some of the best characters ever. sadly we got to see so little of them in the 3rd movie. they totally cut out sarumon's whole part from the 3rd movie...not to mention the whole guardman that hung out with pippin, i forget his name, its been years since i read the books. oh and the Silmarillion? that book reads like a really really extra boring bible. i could not stand that book.

Yeah but they're putting the fight between Saurumon and Gandolf back in the DVD when it comes out. Or so is the rumor, so far. (Hope hope!)
