Silent Hill: Homecoming
Silent Hill: Homecoming
Any one else planning on getting this?
I'm super psyched because the other silent hills(except 3) were awesome to me.
I'm anxious but worried though, this ones being made by a different team than made the others, and there hasnt' been any review or anything about it yet either.

Re: Silent Hill: Homecoming
Don't know when/if I'll ever get it, But it sure does look nice. After I get some of my primary anticipated games this year (LBP, Killzone 2), I might buy it. I've never beaten a silent hill game before, but I remember playing the demo of the one when you're stuck in your apartment. And I also played some of the first one.
Re: Silent Hill: Homecoming
I just played thru SH:origins on PS2.
It was good you might like it. Most of them are good
One is good cause it's the original, 2 has the best story imo, 3 kinda sucked for all the money you can see was pumped into it, the story just lacked any drawing power for me. 4 is awesome though, very deep. Some of the real value of silent hill is the underlying storyline, which is actually far from obvious when you play thru.
If you have any interest in a good deep story though they have some good write ups on game faqs of people trying to piece together what's actually going on in silent hill.
Think of it as Silent Hill isn't really hell. The only hell there is the hell you bring with you.
But i agree there are alot of games comming out soon that are awesome, and i dont' suspect SH would be the top of most anyones.
Let me know if you play it though and what you think.

Re: Silent Hill: Homecoming
I just hope this one is a good entry point for newcomers. Although I have played a bit of Silent Hill 1 so I know some of the key things to expect. It's a horror franchise I've always wanted to get into.
Re: Silent Hill: Homecoming
Better not have that Zork style perfection system that SH4 had.
Fuck, leave a sword behind by accident and you're fucked for the rest of the game.

Re: Silent Hill: Homecoming
i don't remember having a problem in SH:4. Not to say there wasn't one. But what i remember about the swords is that you didn't even really need them, but just to make the game easier i picked the 3 most annoying ghosts, nailed them to the ground with em, then just let them rot and went about my game.
I really liked that you could get thru the entirety of 4 without using any kind of projectile weapon.
Sh: Origins is the same way but instead of most of your weapons being unbreakable and the really powerful ones breaking after so much use, in SH:O every weapon breaks after a very short time. You get like a giant 3' long wrench that breaks after 2.5 monsters. And a plank of wood, that breaks after 2.5 monsters. Annoying.

Re: Silent Hill: Homecoming
Which horror franchise would you say is better, Resident Evil or Silent Hill?
Re: Silent Hill: Homecoming
Ehh thats a tough question. The reason being Resident Evil games have ranged from amazing to really bad.
Over all I'd say resident evil is a better series from a gamer standpoint. It has a few amazing titles, some so-so ones and some really bad ones. The latest titles have been the worst ones unfortunatly so I fear that RE:5 will follow the trend.
Like RE:4 I know everyone loved. But the game isn't scary. Ammunition is plentiful. And I didn't see zombie 1. the story may as well not be there and there was exactly 1 jump-start-your-heart suprise moment in the entire game some where torwards the end.
On the other hand if you want a Survival Horror experiense to remeber, play the remake of resident Evil 1 thats on game cube.
And don't be a sissy and play it on easy. Survival Horror is ment to be played thru on hard(even on you first time thru). If it's easy, then it's not scary.
You have to be scared to walk thru weach door because you only have 6 bullets and if there's a zombie or god forbid more than one on the other side of the door, you're at it's mercy. Plus random scares a-plenty in REmake.
But Silent Hill has a story that's kept me thinking for years after i've played the game. Gameplay wise though it's far inferior to Resident Evil. I just played thru Silent Hill 2, and the combat in that game is cumbersome to say the least. On the one hand you can go thru nearly the entire game(Minus boss fights) without firing a shot, but instead use your melee weapons. But the story and the atmosphere is great.
Meh I dunno still but I'll probably say resident evils that include the REmake on GC, RE:2, and Code Veronica.
To a lesser extent 3 and 4 were also great instalments in their way but just didn't have it right. 4 especialy. Great game. Just not a great resident evil.
0 sucked. Avoid.

Re: Silent Hill: Homecoming
I'm stoked for it! But I'm lame enough that I bought it, but I haven't even had a chance to play it. But when I do, I'm sure I will have fun.
I absolutely loved the first one on the PS1.
And I hope to get a similar "high" off of this one, especially now with the better graphics and (from what I heard) improved gameplay and fighting system.
I liked 2 thru 4, but didn't really love them.

Re: Silent Hill: Homecoming
I've been playing it off and on.
It's got its pros and cons. It is pretty and the combat system is decent. But with out any real "cues" of when to dodge can be frustraighting. But that could just be growing pains, and onc eyou master them it'll be real easy.
The only downside so far is that i have yet to be sucked into the story. I'm likley only about 1/4 the way through though, so that dosn't mean alot.

yaeh supposedly all 5 endings are obtainable ont he first play thru depending on your choices in 2 different dialog trees.
I havnt' picked the game back up yet though to finish it wich is bother some.
I really need to finish it befor i can justify buying *deep breath* Eternal Sonata, Deep Space, Bio Shock, Little Big Planet, and Fallout 3, all of wich ALSO come out this month.
Its a good month to be alive.
