Tetris is a prime example of how a weak storyline can often result in rewarding gameplay and be very definitely worth it.

Tetris != Mirrors Edge.

They are two very different games. I don't want to have to run and jump all over the place without a reason.

Well I didn't want to build up all those blocks only to knock them all back down without a reason god dammit!

It took a lot of work to build those up only to find out that if you completed your creation, you inevitably destroyed it in the process.

Ugh, I guess I can't put my feelings into words.

How about this:

I don't want this game to be just a tech demo.

People were worried Wii Sports was just gonna be a "tech demo"

Result: The game was well received by audiences, casual or hardcore.

Wiizer, I hear the story revolves around you being on the run from some kind of police force as you're part of some kind of renegade faction.

I've also heard it'd be something like that.

I'm going to attempt to try and explain how I feel one more time:

I don't want the developers to just rush to showcase this new concept of first person gaming ( at least, I think it's something new ), and then say "wow, best gameplay ever. Go tell the writers to whip up a story real quick.". In other words, I don't want the game to just be a tech demo. The definition of a tech demo is:

"A tech demo (technology demonstration) is a prototype, rough example or an otherwise incomplete version of a product, put together with the primary purpose of showcasing the idea, performance, method or the features of the product. They can be used as demonstrations to the investors, partners, journalists or even to potential customers in order to convince them of the viability of the chosen approach."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technology_demo

I don't want this game to be just a showcase. I want a nice, involving storyline too. I guess you could look back at Assassin's Creed as an example. Everyone over hyped the game when they saw the amazing game play videos and trailers. The game had so much potential and it feel short of expectations. It introduced a lot of new things, but ultimately fell short for a lot of people because of it's repetitive missions and (IMO) not so great storyline. The game was fun for a while, sure. But it got old doing the same missions and hearing the same voice clips over and over again. I want Mirrors Edge to succeed where Assassin's Creed failed, and the best ways it could do that is by having a storyline that keeps me coming back for more, and with variety. I just hope it doesn't flop the same exact way Assassins Creed did. I probably shouldn't keep my hopes up high just yet. Maybe I'm the only one that feels this way. Anyway, that's pretty much the best I can sum it up for you.

I understand your concerns about it, but personally I don't think it'll turn out to be only a tech demo. The FPS genre has been around long enough that most games within its type are usually pretty fleshed out (even if they suck because of flawed design). I know there are some relatively new concepts in this game, but I have faith in a company like DICE to do well by their ideas.

Mirror's Edge is coming out for PS3, 360, and PC simultaneously. But I agree, this game looks really cool. I have faith in DICE working with a FPS, they have had a little experience. What I think is cool is that the main character is female, but they didn't make her look ridiculous like other games that have female characters. Like big boobs, long legs, short shorts, a tanktop, etc. I'm looking at you Lara Croft. I hope that the story is well done. I like the premise behind it. It would be cool if during chase sequences there was a button you could press to look behind you to see cops chasing you or something like that.
