Did you know SNES had good games?

Post by WiizerFanboy »

So i've been playing a lot of SNES lately through completely legal means. Man, has anyone ever realized how many great hidden gems were on the damn thing? Yeah, we've all played the major ones, the marios, the zeldas, the metroids, and the final fantasies, among others. But there are so many other great games that flew under my radar until now. Aside from playing chrono trigger, I've been playing some other great games like Dragon Quest 6, Live-A-Live ( undiscovered square rpg ), Bahamut Lagoon, Rudra no hihou ( 'Treasure of the Rudra' in english ) illusion of Gaia, and sky blazer. It just blew my mind how much great stuff there is. I also gave Seiken Densetsu 3 another chance, I'm actually enjoying it this time around.

I actually have earthbound too. but my main RPG right now is chrono trigger, as I've put off beating the damn game for a while now. I'm about halfway into it, where I have to go to magus's lair with the masamune. but anyway, after Chrono trigger, I might continue Dragon Quest 6. There's just something about Akira Toriyama ...

There are some real gems on the SNES, but really a lot of SNES games that I used to think were really good are... not. DQ6 for instance starts out seeming pretty cool, but is a painfully boring game once you get into it, and this is coming from someone who's played all the DW/Q games many times over. This is my experience with a lot of "classic" SNES RPGs. Currently in my gaming queue SNES games occupy only 5 positions (CT, FF4&5, Secret of Mana, and Seiken Densetsu 3), compared to 24 PS2 games among a total of ~100.

Maybe I've just moved on. Also, next-gen has spoiled me.

Vamp, I really hope you never play Kid Icarus. xD

There are many good games on the SNES. I played Bahamut Lagoon for a bit and it was awesome (was playing it before my comp died), Illusion of Gaia I had and played, play Zombies Ate My Neighbors if you haven't, Actraiser is pretty cool, as well as many others I can't think of right now.

I was trying to play many of these "hidden jems" before my computer died, but I lost all those "legal copies" when it did. The SNES is definitly my personal console ever. It was just at the point where graphics alone couldn't sell a game, but not bad enough so that you couldn't make things look beautiful.

damn, sucks to hear that... so I guess I shouldn't waste my time with DQ6 ? I got about half an hour into it. I gotta say the game is just beautiful, I love akira toriyama's style. It's why I want to play blue dragon.

There's a lot of great hidden games on the SNES. I really should make a list sometime. Weezerjedi got some great fairly unknown SNES games recently.

well I was talking more about games that were great and fun to play, but were highly underrated/undiscovered.

But yeah I pretty much agree with Q's list.
