Yaaaay!!!!!! will add you soon JBizzle, at the time I'm posting this my bro is leveling my character in COD4.
oh, as for a media server, TVersity is the best way to go for all that stuff. although you don't really need it anymore if you're trying to play .avi and .wmv files since the ps3 now recognizes them. but yeah it's a good thing to use when you want to save space I guess.
Quick question: Can you output to 1080i? My HDTV only supports 1080i and if I'm buying a PS3 eventually I really don't want to use just 480p.
Side-note: As soon as I can find a cheap 2nd hand older XBox1 I'm going to put a gigantic hard drive in it and turn it into a media server and torrent downloader for my house.
And still have it be in 1080i and not just 480p upscaled? I've heard really mixed reports. I'm kinda looking for a certain videophile to answer this one *cough*break*cough*
Despite 1080p being "the true definition of HD", most of the titles available are rendered internally at 1280 x 720 and scaled up accordingly... or at least that's what should happen. On many older CRT HDTVs that only support 1080i input and not 720p, instead of scaling to the appropriate HD resolution, the PS3 goes back down to the positively Wii-like EDTV standard of 480p.
What my 360 does is upscale 720p to 1080i, I'd like the PS3 to do the same.

Vamp,
Basically 720P is better than 1080i
1:1 Pixel Matching FTW.
If yoru TV is 480P how the hell can you go to 1080i?
My tv is 720P and can also do 1080i and I run 720P...
My TV does not support 720p. It supports 480i, 480p, and 1080i. It's a 3 year old rear-projection television. For my money, I prefer the higher resolution over non-interlaced image anyway.
As of right now it will go down to 480p for software that does not support 1080i as it will not upscale from 720p. A lot of stuff does support 1080i though.
A firmware upgrade is supposed to fix this problem, but Sony has said that its not really its first priority.
