Do people take games too damn seriously?
Do people take games too damn seriously?
I've noticed that a lot of online players are getting to the point where they want to physically injure people if they get beat in an online game by someone else. I've been threatened and everything else.
Hell, back when Xbox Live was young and I played the demo of MotoGP, I was screwing around and I ran this guy off the road. Son of a bitch threatened to come to my house and shoot me.
And do I NEED to mention the people on Halo? FFS man, I'm surprised there's so many players on it with how many of them must have heart attacks after every match that they lose.
Do people not play games to...you know...have fun anymore?

I can understand if you did something like spawn camped with a tank or something, but little things like running people off the road should kind of be ignored. If people want to go up against people who don't act erratically they should play against bots. I like online simply because you get that neat spectrum of different personalities. When would you ever play a game against bots where someone literally just asks if they could have your team's flag? Or what about a bot who waits behind then spams super items in Mario Kart? If people aren't going in for the fun then they shouldn't play any more. Those so called studies that claim video games cause violent behavior are just getting people like the people you have run into.
Next time someone threatens you though, ask them if they their parents beat them as a kid. If they say no then simply ask them why they are so angry. If they say it's because you did whatever then tell them it is just a game and that they should calm down. If they stay angry for whatever reason just say that they had to have been beat as a kid because that is the only explanation as to why they are getting mad when you kill them in a game where the entire purpose is to kill the other player. I've always wanted to do this but I don't have an X-box or a working PC. =\
But ya, people seriously need to calm the fuck down.

No?
Don't.
At least if you want to keep this statement true.
Then I guess he has a bad day everyday. He threw a chair at my computer desk which I have on video. He threw chairs at my wall inflicting 3 giant holes (which I had to cover up with posters). Oh, and look at this, he just flipped out playing guitar hero 3 and through a Ron Paul sign which scratched my door. He also threw the guitar hero controller.Mericks wrote:Well that could actually just be a case of having a really bad day. Okay...then yeah...your brother takes games too seriously. I've only had that kind of anger 3 times. It resulted in 4 holes in 2 walls and one door when they were all said and done. During the most recent one I kicked clean through the entire walls since it was drywall...This was 2 and a half years ago.
Throwing things is the most common reaction I've seen when someone gets angry. My friends did it, both of my parents, all my siblings, both of my living grandparents, me, and so on. I've seen many people throw many things despite what they're angry about. Gamers choose to throw their controller since it's the easiest thing they have access to and they blame the reason they're failing on it usually (and, granted, I have seen people whose decision that the controller was screwing them up was, in fact, valid. Especially in guitar hero...I've yet to see a perfectly working guitar for the game...Whammy bars are broken, they work weird, frets don't realize when they're pressed down, the strum bar won't strum, etc.
It sucks...
It sucks...
While you are quite mellow, maul, it should be noted that some people are just fucked up. They are not the norm. Saying "people take video games too seriously" when there are a few dysfunctional people throwing things and hurting people is an overstatement. Besides, it's easy to get wrapped up emotionally in something you're focused on intently, which some people do with games. They lose perspective on the rest of the world. It's not taking it too seriously, it's just forgetting where you are.

It's not a "few" people that throw things...I've seen almost every single person throw something over something tiny and trivial just cause they're mad about it. I mean it's hard to think of who I HAVEN'T seen throw something...RurouniQ wrote:While you are quite mellow, maul, it should be noted that some people are just fucked up. They are not the norm. Hurting people over games is getting out of the norm...I haven't seen that as much...I mean I did hit a guy cause I was getting pissed with his bullshit in a video game once, but that was moreso from the buildup of bullshit he put me through before the game we were playing capped me off and I threw my shoulder out trying to punch him...The punch didn't get any force after it threw out so I started kicking him...
I mean seriously, this guy's put me through hell and back and he's put my ass on the line more than once.
