Rockstar taken to court

Post by jayt11 »

the article in question is posted here http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/grand ... 77161.html

who is at fault here? the game makers for putting out a game that *gasp* depicts violence....well, Hollywood has been doing it for years. If you remember, 10 years ago, a college student(imitating the highway scene in The Program) was dragged 500 feet by a car. The scene was taken out of the movie soon thereafter. Violence though? in T2, the T1000 killed about 200 people I believe. the point here is, in every form of mainstream media there is violence. how can you logically blame the creators...you can't.

how about the clerk who sold the game, if he did in fact knowingly sell an M rated game to two teens? Since when are ratings enforced anyway? i wasn't banned from buying Mortal Kombat when i was 14.

how about the kids, who seemed to know no better than to imitate the game? I watched horror movies, listened to rappers talk about killing cops, watched Jeff Hardy nearly kill himself jumping off of 20 foot ladders, and played my share of Fatality filled games, but i never got the urge to follow
their leads. my parents, while they were here, taught me better than that. Don't try this at home, I heeded it.

or maybe we should blame the parents of the shooters, who obviously didn't give the game a look to make sure it was something that they should be playing? If the clerks enforced the M rating, maybe it was the parents who bought the game. Even if it wasn't, would it have killed them to watch what their kids were playing, just for the language used in the game. Where were those guns again??? In their PARENTS house, the dad had a damned NRA trophy room. Didn't the father teach them any better?

The victims families, while i feel bad for them, they are letting their overpaid lawyers get in their ears with bad info. They need to be suing the parents of the little Bastard Alley Crime Club who thought shooting guns on the highway would be 'cool cause they saw it in GTA.'

any other ops?

I totally agree, well said. The Penny-Arcade guys have brought this subject up a few times, and I know that Break and Richie and the other guys on the Show have as well.

WALMART? what the hell? course we know why: Walmart has deep pockets. They've got a lot of money, and these stupid family members and their fucking lawyers are trying to make money off of a tragic event. Like Jayt said, if you wanna sue somebody, sue the dumbass parents of the little fuckers. OH! haha! but the parents aren't going to have a few million bucks laying around! We'll go for Walmart instead! Greedy whores.

The responsibility lies in the hands of the parents. No one just all the sudden goes out and starts shooting. It's a long time before that happens, and a lot of suspicious behavior is going to happen first. If the parents are doing their JOB, they would correct any problems before they became dangerous. But even if I did just snap and beat a guy to death with a brick, what are you going to do? Sue the company that made the brick? Sue the trucking company that hauled them? It's all stupid.
I have spoken.

Ya know, a couple weeks ago, I would have said "I CANT FUCKING BELIEVE IT!!!" But now, after I read that the parents of the kids who did the shooting were suing, this comes as no suprise.

Realms got it right, it's just people taking advantage of an opportunity: some dumbass kids shot some people, the kids mention that they got the idea from a game from a big name company, sold to them by an even bigger company. The parents, on both ends of the barrel, see money and promptly take advantage of the situation.

There's only one group that needs to get sued here: the parents, for not doing their fucking jobs. They're bitching about the game that supposedly gave the inspiration for the spree. Why not sue the parents for allowing the kids access to the rifles that were used in the spree? And what about the car that was used, too? But no, that wouldn't happen, they'd just sue the guy company for making the guns too unsafe, or the car maker for making the car too easy to hot wire.

So, if you'll excuse me, I think I'm gonna go build myself a lightsaber and try a force jump off the highest building in town. But don't worry, I'll just sue LucasArts. I mean, it's not my fault, it was JKII that gave me the idea.

hell, that's like parents of Gulf War victims suing Hasbro for making the G.I. Joe cartoons. You know, those cartoons led them to believe that there was a lot of shooting in the army, but no one EVER got hit by any gunfire.
