Grand Theft Auto IV Trailer

Post by bmdubya »

So what do you guys think about GTA IV. Personally, I think it looks fucking awesome, but I love the GTA games. I almost stayed home from school when San Andreas came out, but at the last minute I decided to go. I think I played it for like 8 hours that night though. Anywho, from the trailer we know a few things. It takes place in New York City. You play a guy from the Russian Mafia. From the voice over, it seems like he has just got to the United States. The graphics look pretty good for a GTA game. There is a theme park in the game. Pedestrians look better. I think everything about it looks great. I can't wait.

EDIT: Ok, all the major game sites are reporting it is Liberty City, but there are a bunch of landmarks from New York City in the game, like the Statue of Liberty and the Chrysler Building. I am confused, but I guess it is Liberty City.

Well, I like the mood a lot better than previous games. That's for sure. I'll wait until I see some actual gameplay mechanics involved to pass final judgment though. I of course have to get a 360 1st (and it sounds like my brother has a friend that'll sell 1 to me, with an intercooler included even).

Personally, the most important thing I need to see changed in the game is the damn controls (mostly...ok, almost completely involving gunplay which I have always hated in all the 3D GTA games.). I'm not even touching the game if I have to put up with that crap again, because it'll just prove to me that Rockstar doesn't know how to pull off a decent aiming system.

It's not Liberty City, it's clearly New York City. From the looks of things, they have a completely rendered and life like version of New York City, hopefully including the broader NYC such as Queens et al. That would explain the long dev time relative to the previous games.

Yeah I thought it was New York City, but then I went to IGN and they were saying it was Liberty City. I guess we will have to wait and see what R* says. Another thing I noticed when I slowed down the trailer, that chicken restaurant from San Andreas was in it, so I am guessing that food mechanic is back in the game. I am sure that they will include everything from San Andreas, like clothing, hair cuts, stuff like that, but add some more things. One vehicle I would like to see is a jet ski. I think they had jet skis in Vice City Stories, so I don't know why they wouldn't add them to GTA IV.

EDIT: Well it looks like it is Liberty City. Look at the side of the cop car. It says LCPD. http://flickr.com/photos/bmdubya/439445604/

Liberty City in GTA 3 WAS NYC, period. Yeah, they took liberties with certain things(no pun intended) but it was definetely a strong resemblance to NYC.

To keep it in continuity, of course they'll keep calling it Liberty City.

Yeah I know that, and Vice City was Miami; Los Santos was Los Angeles; San Fiero was San Fransisco, and Las Venturas was Las Vegas. The only thing that made me think it was NYC was the Statue of Liberty, but like another guy said in another forum, San Fiero had the Golden Gate Bridge, and Las Venturas had the Vegas Strip, but it wasn't the actually cities.
