Force Unleashed
I'm sure many of you have heard of the next Star Wars game, The Force Unleashed. If you haven't go look it up now.
As I talked about SL on the show last Thursday, and then reading on Friday that the game had confirmed online multiplayed with lightsaber combat, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in reviving SL with me. This game is going to be on everything except GameCube and Wii, so no matter what systems you have (unless those are your only two) you could be a part of it. If you don't know what SL was, listen to last Thursday's show.
Besides this multiplayer, you should really look up the game. Its going to be an official part of the canon including extended universe characters. You play as Darth Vader's apprentice between III - IV and I guess much of the story helps to explain many of Darth Vader's actions in the original trilogy. Much more work is going into this game than any Star Wars game previously.
If you do have a Wii and nothing else, do take a little solace that there's still some sort of "lightsaber game" in the pipe line. Given Nintendo's difficult stance on online (not even giving third parties that part of the dev kit till 2007, and the blasphemy to gamers known as friend codes) who knows if it will go online. If it does I would be ecstatic and this could certainly be part of SL.
I'm excited.

Nintendo started sending out online dev kits.

Awesome! Better late than never! I can't wait to see the fruits of those dev-kits. I just wish they would have done it sooner.
LucasArts are usually all sorts of new next-gen technology on this game, and the 360 and the Ps3 are the only two systems that support the actual versions of the game. The other versions are dumbed down ports. The technology they are using is amazing, and the gameplay looks like it will match.
As for the Wii, I am just as excited for a WiiSaber game!

Man, it would have been so cool throwing them around with the wiimote, but nothing is perfect I guess.
I will be really happy if the Storm Troopers actually get scared. Call me a psycho, but I LOVE scaring the hell out of the enemies. Hide behind something, reach up and make some BIGASS metal beam fall and kill a few guys. Everyone else in the room be like "HOOOOOOLY SHIT!"

Half Life 2 had destructible environments. You could also throw people around in Half Life 2. Ask Richie about it. Dare I say Half Life 2 is the greatest PC FPS ever? Quite possibly.
Force Unleashed should be interesting though. There was no lightsaber in Half Life 2 though, just a crowbar. A beautiful, beautiful crowbar.

But were the enviroments based on animations? Or did they take into account every possible angle to which they could be attacked from and therefore destructed in a different way every time?AIDS wrote:Half Life 2 had destructible environments. Environments weren't based on animations in Half Life 2 because of the physics. As far as structure density, they didn't have that. It might be something they might include in future episodes though. I know in Half Life 2: The Lost Coast, they added HDR lighting for high performance PCs.
Force Unleashed seems to me like a mixture of the Jedi Knight series and Half Life 2, which is a very good thing. It's been a while since the last Star Wars FPS. They had that one that was kind of like Rainbow Six, where you play with a squad of clone troopers. But that's different. I'm most excited about the possibility of throwing storm troopers around and cutting everything up with light sabers.
