PSP help.

Post by Typheus »

Ok, I think everyone here knows I want to mod my PSP to support homebrew...but there's a PROBLEM. I'm a bit scared that I'll dl some shit that will end up bricking my PSP, so if Vamp or any other PSP literate person on here could point me in the right direction. Vamp pointed me to this one .rar file, but I dunno if I'm supposed to keep it as .rar or extract it.

For any of these things, there is practically no chance you'll end up bricking your PSP, so above all DON'T WORRY.

Now, if you just want to get playing SNES emulators or something like that really quick...

Install eLoader:
http://www.noobz.eu/joomla/index.php?op ... einfo&id=4

Install any applications you might want:
SNES Emulator - http://pspupdates.qj.net/index.php?pg=49&aid=39543
Pretty close to anything else - http://dl.qj.net/PSP/catid/106

Follow the instructions and enjoy. With this you have to run the first app through the PHOTO menu (where the exploit is) and then run the other apps within that.

Now, I won't lie to you: with your motherboard it tends to get a little more complicated to do some of the more interesting stuff like being able to run the applications from the GAME menu and to get ISO loaders/firmware emulators going.

First download this: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/946

From the README:

Instructions

------------

- Copy all contents inside MS_ROOT to the root of your memory stick.

(ADDED) - Replace the EBOOT.PBP file on the memory stick root (first thing you see after you click on the drive in "My Computer") with the following:
http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/937
For some reason this guide uses the Japanese version...

- Go to the PHOTO viewer of the XMB and enter in the folder "HEND".

- If your PSP freezes, reboot your PSP and try again. This is due to

the instabability of the tiff and it'll only be executed at times.

It'll be improved in the near future by Dark_AleX.

- A blue screen will appear the first time you run this program, and

after that, you'll either see:

1) Red: The files couldn't be written to the flash, keep trying.

2) Green: The files were written successfully. The XMB will reboot

shortly. You can now run homebrew in the format prepared

for 2.71. (details below).

- As previously mentioned, the patch will remain resident in memory.

The patch will not be removed, even in sleep mode. Only a hardware

reset will remove the program from memory.

- When you do a hardware reset, you'll have to run the tiff again.

The difference this time is, there won't be a green or red screen

since there's no longer a need to write to flash.

(again, due to the instabability of the tiff, it'll either get

stucked on the blue screen and turns off, or the XMB will reboot

itself shortly after the blue screen.)

If it get stucked, just run the tiff again, and keep trying until

it reboots by itself after the blue screen.

- Once the patch has been executed, it is independent on the memory stick

contents, so, you can freely swap memory sticks until you have to run

the patch again due to a hard-reset.

- After you've completed the steps above, Run the pbp with the title

"DEVHOOK0.4X launcher for 2.71". Adjust the settings as per below:

UMD SELECT > UMD Disc

FIRMWARE > 1.50

CPU CLOCK > 222MHz /111MHz

BOOT SELECT > reboot XMB

OTHER MENU > UMD SFO VERSION > 2.xx to 2.00

- Once you're in the emulated 1.50 environment, go to the GAME menu

of the XMB and run "DevHook Firmware Installer".

- Press X and wait for loading screen.

- Press X once more to dump.

- Wait for the PSP to reboot upon dump completion.

- Turn off the PSP once it's done.

- Turn it back on and execute HEND again.

- Go to the GAME menu again and run "DEVHOOK0.51 launcher BETA".

- In the DevHook menu, scroll down to "FLASH INSTALL".

(remove any previous flashes by selecting the "uninstall DH files

from flash1:" and hold O for 1 second to unflash)

- Select "install configfile to flash1:".

- Hold O for 1 second to start writing.

If you're hesitant about flashing, don't worry, as writing to flash1

is very safe since it doesn't overwrite any files in flash1.

- Start DevHook and you'll be booted into 3.02 successfully.

You'll also want to install an auto-exec mod for that HEN program so you don't have to run it from the PHOTO menu every time you start your PSP up.

Go to http://0okm.blogspot.com/2006/10/hen-c- ... pdate.html

Download the Hen C AutoExec mod and Hen_C no "flash red" Patch, it says Hen_C but don't worry it will work with your Hen_D.

Run the AutoExec mod from within the PHOTO menu.
Then run the no_flash mod from within the PHOTO menu.

It'll now auto run HEN every time you start your PSP, you'll have to see the boot screen twice though.

Once you're done, you can remove all of the following from your PSP:

\EBOOT.PBP
\pspbtknf.txt
\pspbtknf_game.txt
\pspbtknf_updater.txt
\dh\150\
\PSP\PHOTO\ (anything in here, just don't delete the folder)
\PSP\GAME\DH_ENG271\
\PSP\GAME\__SCE__302_dh_fw_installer\
\PSP\GAME\%__SCE__302_dh_fw_installer\

Told you it was complicated. HEN and the AutoExec mod allow you to run Devhook and other homebrew like SNES emulators. Devhook will allow you to mount and run any "backups" you might want and to run UMD games and videos that won't run natively in 2.71 because of dumb firmware restrictions.

Whether you use eLoader or the Homebrew Enabler method, unfortunately not all homebrew apps will be compatible with your PSP, so if something doesn't work... give up look for something else that will.

yay. Now I just got to wait on the PSP god, Dark_Alex, to let me play PS1 games, but this is an EXCELLENT start.

I swear...Sony must suck if it's only taking one guy to break down every firmware restriction they've ever had...homebrew restricting bastards.

Ok first off, I had to upgrade cause my dad was getting suspciious of why I hadn't played my new game yet. Secondly, wtf is a pbp, cause i couldn't run anything having to do with devhook4x installer.

Remember when I said "DON'T UPGRADE"... well now you're screwed. :? If it's only 2.80 you went to you might have some hope for now, but anything beyond that and you're going to have a long wait ahead of you.
