Anyone who has a PSP, Q&A
Anyone who has a PSP, Q&A
What would I need to buy for the PSP to have the most fun with it? (USB stuff, memory stuff, etc.)
How are its emulation capabilities? All I've heard are people geeking about it.
Exactly how long does it take to load games? I've seen vids where it takes 6 minutes to load a wrestling match, but I dunno if they're fake or not
How good are the actual gams for it?
Well that's about it. I'm going to be getting one for Christmas, so I wanted to know a few things.

Your best bet would probably be to find an Entertainment pack. For $50 more then the core, you get a game (ATV Offroad Fury: Blazin' Trails), a UMD movie (as useless as they are, Lords of Dogtown), and a 1 GB Memory Stick Pro Duo. Alternatively, a core is $200 new, comes only with the console and an AC adapter, but you could probably find a 1GB stick for like $30 if you don't care about the crappy game or movie.
Load times vary from game to game, but the general rule of thumb is avoid wrestling games, and avoid EA games. The one that takes an eternity of time to load is Smakdown vs Raw 2006, and man is that one steaming pile of shit. EA never seems to bug test or put any time into the PSP games they make, so the best thing to do there is to check online before you buy a game. Portable Ops, my latest purchase, is quite speedy in loading, I'd say about as long as MGS3 took.
As for top recommendations, in order:
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (and seriously I can't recommend this highly enough to anyone)
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
Tekken: Dark Resurrection
LocoRoco
Mega Man Maverick Hunter X / Powered Up!
Metal Gear Acid 1 and/or 2 (2 is a lot better then the original)
WipeOut Pure
Killzone Liberation
I'd also say Lumines or Lumines II, but if I remember right you already have the Live version.
GBA fullspeed, SNES nearly full speed, Neo-Geo runs well (as do Capcom Play System 1 and 2), and you can pretty well expect anything lower in power than those to run full speed. The thing is you need to be careful in what you buy. If you want the best setup, you'd pretty well have to buy used, make sure that it's an old motherboard, make sure it's an old firmware... bit of a hassle. If you buy a new console, odds are you'll end up with a console that's hackable with a good mobo and firmware, but apparently there are some newer ones out there... so it could be iffy. How are its emulation capabilities? Just go to http://www.psp-hacks.com/ Cheetor.
And it requires 2.81, fanboy. New devhook supports up to 3.02, so it doesn't really matter .

yeah, the hacking stuff's pretty cool, i agree. I happen to love the Castlevania "Metroid-style" gameplay, hence the DS love.Cheetor wrote:I would get a DS, but I like the thought of being able to do all that hacking shit with the PSP.
Plus, I havn't seen any games I really want for the DS other than Mario 64 DS.
