Do you guys ever put on your own tournaments?
Being a newbie to this site, I hope I'm not posting in the wrong place. Anyway, are most of you from Kansas or the Lawrence/Topeka/Overland Park/KC area?
The creator of our site in NM has his connections to get us venues for one day tournaments. Most of us are fighting game fans so the tournaments have featured SC2, TTT, T4, and CvS2. We busted out Halo at our second tournament just for fun and there was a lot of interest, so we have Halo as a part of our lineup now.
I go to Lawrence a few times a year because I have friends there and I'm always looking for people to play in SC2 or Halo. So I was just wondering if you guys do tournaments or just the site or go to other peoples tournaments or what?

I'll be damned if I ever get beat by a button masher!!!
NVGL in Olathe has tournaments that some of us go to, but they're pretty much Xbox-only tournaments. Other than that, we haven't really had any, which kind of blows, now that I think about it. We definitely need to have some Breakmanx.com-sponsored events.
My suggestions for games would be: SC2, Timesplitters2 (except no one plays the damn game so we might as well do Halo instead ), SSMB, NBA Street 2, and maybe even DDR (rumor has it Lawrence is getting a machine soon).

Yeah, y'all should sponsor some tournies. We just post flyers all over and get people to log on to our site or they just show up and we have them hooked. They keep getting bigger, and some of our players are actually hardcore tournament scene guys for TTT and T4. Two of our members went out to California for the world fighting game tournament Evo. Don't know how many of you know about that tourney or not, but the best in the nation and the world were there, well, most of them were. The top two SC2 players in the nation weren't there as far as I know.
It'd be great if I could coordinate my visits with a tournament or two.

VF Evo is really tight. I picked up my copy last week. $20! how can you go wrong? It's like they took all the crap out of VF4 and made it a better game! Seriously, though. It's pretty tight. I love the quest mode. You should check it out if you get the chance, web.

edit: And yes, we should put on some tourneys, but first we need to pick up some listeners....or some advertising...otherwise it'll just be the breakmanx guys plus 1 or 2....

I'll be checking out VF4 evo soon enough. As for tournaments, we just put up flyers all over, mostly at places where we expect gamers to hang out. Hastings and the gamestores. Do you do any shameless plugs at EB or are you not allowed to? KU has all kinds of bulletin boards and a ton of gamers for sure. Post at the dorms, a flyer with the little tear offs with your site on them, like those apartment advertisements. Laundrymats as well. Sure it'll take some legwork, but I bet you could get some new people in.
We have 68 people signed up at our site, I came in at 31, but a lot of them don't even check the site anymore. I'd say we have about 10-15 active members out of that 68. When it comes to tournaments, we get a respectable 30-35 now, and we expect to get a lot more once we get a steady venue.
But for advertising, have someone put together a decent looking flyer and just hang them up all over lawrence and the surrounding area. I haven't checked out the radio show portion of your site yet, but I will, and I'll have some people from our site check it out as well.
I think a SC2 tournament in Lawrence could get pretty big tho.

Definitely advertising in other towns could get you some cross town or cross state rivalries. I don't know how familiar you guys are with the New Mexico area, but since I'm the lone Santa Fe warrior, I've been assimilated into the Albuquerque collective. Down south about 4 hours is the Las Cruces crew, followed close behind by the El Paso crew in TX. We also have a Colorado Springs crew that comes down, so we get a lot of people from the surrounding area at our tournaments.
I could see it really happening in those surrounding communities where you get people to check this out as a central hub, and then each little town or crew can host a tournament once a month or something you know? You gotta advertise tho. For real, if I was living in Lawrence, I'd be all over that advertising for you guys. I'd probably plaster Overland park as well. It's up to you guys tho. If you get out there and make it happen, I see breakmanX taking off.
There's supposed to be some sort of midwestgamers.com or something along those lines too. There's a guy from Overland Park on a board I visit and he goes to that board as well. I'll get the address for you guys and maybe you could do some plugs for this place.
