I'm not that cheap. I am in a lot of ways, but not when it comes to electronics. I bought a HDTV because I wanted a clearer picture. If that, for some reason, makes people think I'm rich and bullshit like that, they're out of their minds. I am not rich, and I am cheap to a certain extent. BUT with electronics and gaming, I do spend more than I probably should.

Oh, and I LOVE my HDTV. I just love widescreen and in those "next-gen" games, you just can't beat the picture quality.

That's not playing devil's advocate. Devil's advocate would be if you said something positive about the 360. What you were doing was playing Nintendo's advocate.

You're ALWAYS Nintendo's advocate. :P

Yes, Verence is ALWAYS on Oblivion, I second that.

Nothing wrong with that AT ALL, just seconding the motion. Glad you like the game though man. I love seeing people whore out games, it's awesome.

I want 50,000p and I want the video so life like and realistic that it would be impossible to tell the difference between life and television. But keep in mind, we're still in the uncanny valley and we still have a ways to go. I'm dissapointed in alot of things when it comes to technology. When I was a kid, I always thought that by the year 2000, we'd be flying to work or school in flying cars. I thought maybe we'd have spaceships. I especially wanted those cool form fitting shoes and hoverboards from Back to the Future. For me HDTV is not a great enough improvement over SDTV. I see things in HD everyday on my computer. I want to see something that I truly haven't experienced before. The Revolution controller is the experience that I need.
See, I don't neccesarily think that HDTV is bad, it's just that I think we can do better than HDTV. Because I believe in the end, HDTV is still basically a normal TV. HDTV actually doesn't change the way we watch TV. Now, if TV was broadcast as a hologram, I think that would be a real big change. See, teachnology doesn't move fast enough for me. Years from now I will eat my own words when I get an HDTV. Maybe I'll buy it myself because I'll be able to afford it, or maybe I'll get one for free like the last time. But I'd still rather have a TLDTV or HOLOTV (Hologram Television) than a HDTV.

I understand Weezer. And when those TVs come out, I'll buy one. Right now we have HD, and it's just going to have to do for me until that happens.

We can always do everything better than we are doing. But, it is the current steps that get us closer. 360 pushing HD will get more people to buy them which will provide more funding which in turn will produce the next level which will make current HDTVs much cheaper. It is just a continuous cycle. I'm an early adopter, like Atticus, and like to be a part of the transition. I'm not saying anyone is wrong here. I'm just saying that people like Atticus and I benefit the rest because we support current development. Companies that DON'T support HD certainly aren't helping go towards that direction. ..I know they say they're working on holograms. But, they've said that since 93... I really hope they do, and I'll be one of the first to love it.

There will always be something better. That is what is so wonderful about all this.

And Atticus, I too love widescreen. All the small things really add up for me. Weezer, have you actually watched HD, though? DVDs are NOT HD. The best way to witness HD right now is to watch HDTV.

I've watched gaming in HD at your house as well as some of the NCAA tournament games in HD. The difference was very noticable when we went from HD to SD on my friend's HDTV, but that also because SDTV looks terrible on HDTV.

My beef with HDTV is that we should've had it about two decades ago. We've been using SDTV ever since the 1940s. It was 1987 when HDTV was first presented to the NAB. But the US didn't like the version they were shown, partly because it was totally developed and owned by Japan. So, then in 1993 the US formed the Grand Alliance and started putting money into researching and developing HDTV. In 1998 HDTVs were first available to consumers. But nobody cared about it then because there was no use for it. But the US didn't abandon HDTV because they already spent too much time and money on it. So, we're now here in 2006 and people are starting to buy some HDTVs because there's some use for it now (partly because of Gov. regulations). My beef is not against HDTV itself, it is the fact that it should've been around at least a decade ago. But it was American companies and believe it or not, people like Rupert Murdoch who slowed down the progess of HDTV. They complained about the amount of bandwith HDTV used. I'm pretty sure all TVs in Korea are HD and if I'm not mistaken, there is no such thing as dial up because everything is broadband. I don't like the version of HDTV we have because it was not really made for the betterment of the people, it was for the money. Otherwise we would've gone with Japan's version. But then I guess pretty much everything is for the money. All I know is, Japan already proposing UHDTV (Ultra High Definition TV). Some people who viewed it got motion sickness because it looked so realistic. That's the TV I want...UHDTV. Face it, HDTV is already a thing of the past.

Sorry, too many abbreviations...

Abbreviation Key

HD - High Definition
SD - Standard Definition
TV - Television
NCAA - National Collegiate Athletic Association
NAB - National Association of Broadcasters
UHDTV - Ultra High Definition TV

Everything is made for money in some fashion. Anything you can buy, someone is profitting from and therefore made for money. If not, everything would be free.

If you don't want to buy something that is just for money, please don't every buy another video game. Every Nintendo exec is there for one purpose, money. They are really good at it too because they made a lot of it, more so than the other two companies.

C'mon don't be like that. I already noted that everything is for the money. Why the Nintendo jab?

I'm thinking that don't want to talk about this anymore because any points I make can't be taken seriously. Everyone knows I'm a Nintendo fanboy. My fanboyism is starting to irritate everyone. But the actuallity is, my dislike of HDTV doesn't stem from Nintendo (really!). My dislike is HDTV is because I'd rather have UHDTV.

Was readining your post in class so I missed that, my bad.

I'm taking your points seriously, btw. I can't speak for anyone else. I'm just debating with you. Agreeing and not taking seriously are two very different things for me.

Not everyone. I'm sulking right now because I can't afford a DS at the moment. As with most Nintendo products, the Revolution interests me mainly because it looks like it has the potential to be a lot of fun, and also because I have faith in Nintendo to deliver a quality product and to bring out games that I want to play.

The 360 still doesn't have any games that make me or T desperate to own one - probably won't happen until Halo 3 - and I'm just not terribly excited by anything I've seen so far.

I have a major gripe with new technology coming out for maximum profit - especially when in my opinion it's what I think of as poorly designed interim technology. I'm with Weezer on this one in that I really did expect things to move more quickly in terms of technological advances, and I feel disappointed that it's not always the best products that catch on because the market is mostly driven by what sells.

I'm also pissed off that whenever I need to buy a new piece of equipment I have to go through at least three trips back to the store for replacements or alternative models because the damn stuff doesn't work right - no I don't want a sound system that buzzes, no I don't expect my new TV to have 'issues' that you try to pass off as being normal, no I don't want a games console that overheats or crashes in the middle of my game, etc. etc. When I get it home I expect it to be perfect, and if something does go wrong then I want you to kiss my ass and fall over yourself to provide me with a replacement that is to MY satisfaction.

Man, this thread went in a weird and rant-happy direction. :P

I think everything is fine. I'm content with all of my tech. HD is the best I've seen so I don't feel the need for anything better. The 360 is the best value power-wise of anything available now including PCs and there will be tons of games out for it eventually that fully tap that power.

C'mon, what's to complain about? :P

BTW, all the 360-enabled BMX crew have to get at least one common online game to play. I'm thinking either Ghost Recon or Battlefield 2 (coming out middle of the month). Anyone with me?

I mean, I have never played ANY games with ANY of you... except Halo 2 once with RuroniQ... I think. It was a long time ago.
