Good film if you appreciate English literature... Some bad points first:
1)The film Tries to be victorian era and fails MISERAABLY... the wordplay was off so much but the wardrobe and the settings were on target...
2)Sean Connery Sucks monkey nuts but Nemo makes up for it... and so does the later plot
3)Horrible beginning GREAT end!!!
4)CG for some of the background sucks soooo much... it looks so unrealistic and soo perfect that it sticks out and was an eyesore to me (I'm a CG artist/student so I notice these things not sure about anyone else)

Good things
1) Plot picks up halfway into the film... thank GOD
2)EVIL GERMANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3)MORE EVIL GERMANS!!!!!!
4)Great acting by all the actors that aren't named Sean Connery
5)badass Cpt. NEMO
6)Victorian era vampire (the way it should be)
7)Alan Moore made the comic book... so it's rock'em sock'em

And what's more important: The previews,
I saw preview for a film called Underworld and I almost pissed my pants... If anyone here has played vampire the masquerade either tabletop, LARP, or the kickass PC game the movie is VAMPIRE THE MASQUERADE WWITHOUT BEING CALLED VAMPIRE!!!!! WTF!!!!! I counted like 5 clans i could name out of it, ugly nosferatu, strong brujah, gangrel, assimite asassins, and lambrosia.. Don't get me wrong the movie looks AWESOOM but using VTM material so blatantly really sucks...

.:Update:.
After making this comment I was doing some researcha nd the underworld game coming out based off the movie is called bloodlines.... BUT there is a VTM game using the HL2 engine called Bloodlines... but this looks like it;s a FPS also... i am sooo confused.... Must know what this is about... Also a clarification that this is a Vampire vs. Werewolf movie...

Sean Connery sucked? What the hell? You lie; Sean Connery is good in everything he acts in.

The main reason I was gonna go catch this one in theaters is because I wanted to see Connery kick ass like he usually does. Can someone substantiate what ghoest has claimed?

no no ghoest is right, sean connrey didnt even belong in that film, i swear they just took scenes from titanic and the hunt for red october and pasted them together.Me and my friends do a mystery science theater like thing to movies like that but then some bastard told us to be quiet.

ok i saw the movie. first things first, sean connery, as always, kicked ass. i am even more steadfast in my belief that even if the movie sucked, sean connery and his acting are still top-notch. now as for the movie, no, i wouldn't go so far as to say it sucked, but it was a little lame. very short on plot, dialogue, and character development, very long on action and special effects (both of which i thought were very good) it just had a "shallow summer movie aimed at gullible teen guys" aftertaste. ya, so i was gullible, shove it. overall, i'd give it a 6.5 out of 10.
just a footnote, the best movie i've seen since Reloaded was the Italian Job. Funny, cool, good plot, decent acting, i loved it.

i disagree. reloaded didn't have the huge, mind-bending, tie-your-brain-in-knots that #1 had, and it didn't seem as "deep and meaningful" but i totally don't think it sucked. and as far as "kicking ass" scenes go, reloaded did them better than ever before. and for matrix fans, it added a lot of new concepts and stuff to think about. can't wait for november!

I'm going to college to become a 3d artist and the massive "Smith" scenes were sooooo poorly rendered (as compared to what could have been accomplished) (the shading really sucked) (compare the 3d scenes to the final fantasy movie or lord of the rings' Gollum)... It made my eyes hurt... The entire film was so broad that it lost my interest and I didn't enjoy it at all.. The only concepts that were brought to the film series were Neo can kick more ass in this film... True it had it's mind numbing/bending moments like the archetect and Neo's power being able to extend beyond the matrix, but the complexity of the film stopped there and it turned into a futuristic Jet-li movie... I was so dissapointed with this movie I saw it the first night it was out and walked away sad... I hope revolution isn't like this... It was a bridge between the two movies as far as I'm concerned... For them to PUSH out this pile like they did... It's almost comparable to the Game market's "we'll patch it later" attitude when it comes to releasing things... I think it was written and produced way too fast because WB bowed down to the public's demands and whenever that is done, the public always loses... look at all the games pushed to meet a deadline, like SW: galaxies ect...

gollum is the apex, the absolute pinnacle of cg animation. and lotr kicks major ASS!!! the Fellowship is my all-time favorite movie. but as for reloaded, i'll just trust you on the smith scene, you know more about it than i do. i'll admit that i was so blown away by the whole movie that i didn't really try to catch flaws or anything. plus i only saw it once.

i dont want to bring this up, so i will, but isnt the topic about lgx not matrix and lotr, but as long as were on the subject. i thought that reloaded explained alot that the first one didnt but to truley understand the "matrix" itself you have to watch the animatrix, which is god like btw,and the whole cg issue is like when u own a certain type of car u notice more of that car than anything else, isnt that like how it is with you ghoest?
And as for lgx sean connreys acting is fine and all, i just dont think he should have played that part, maybe they should have brought in Christopher Reeve or something to convey a point?
