Hmmm...

Post by Atticus »

Just saw this on some random site. Some retard was commenting on some guy's podcast show.
Jeff Lamberton wrote:I am 30 years old. Just listened for the first time, linked from Penny Arcade. I find this to be an agreeable show. I used to listen to a game radio show over at breakmanx.com, but over the last year it went from being a source of video game news and info, to becoming a bunch of early 20 something boys swearing on a shoutcast station. I know this is not a pure video game show type thing, like breakmanx is supposed to be, but it is a lot more mature, entertaining, and relaxing. I can have this play, and if someone else in the house hears it, I have no reason to be embaressed. The topics match the stuff I am into as well! Books, games, sci-fi, rpgs, KOTDT! I have decided that Mur Lafferty is officially “Cool”.

Heh, that's funny. Good find Atticus. We aren't for everyone, and aren't intended to be. Some people are "embarassed" by complete and total honesty. Some people are afraid of certain words in the English language because our society has raised us to be so. Then there is our audience which I'd like to think is above being such a tool to the system. People that understand that many of the things we learn growing up might be or are wrong and are willing to have an open mind. That, and they're cool people. There are sheep, and then there are you guys.

Pffft that guy is obviously a loser with a capital L!

Okay, maybe the show isn't always totally games orientated but I like to think that is part of its appeal. As cool as a two-hour discussion about super-bouncing in Halo might be... it wouldn't make me tune in on a regular basis (I sacrifice sleep - on show nights I only get a maximum of 4 hours because of the time differences and having to get up early).

Why such dedication? It isn't because I like to imagine Break and Richie engaging in twisted bondage scenarios (that's just an added perk), it's because of all the really cool non-game stuff that I've become interested in because of something that is said or played on the show.

Examples since last summer:

Conniption - I learned a new word! Break used it during the show about nothing and I'd never heard it before so I looked it up. Weirdly I came across it again a month later in a book I was reading.

APC - Break played 'Thinking of You' before one of the shows in the last six months and now I have two of their albums and the DVD ^_^

Bill Hicks - Break talked about the speech he was doing at school, I looked into it a little bit, and then Triad hooked me up with audio clips.

Tool - only a matter of time I guess, but again... I finally gave it a chance because Break played one of their songs recently (though I forget which one it was) and now I'm listening to Stinkfist on repeat while I ride the bus to work.

And most importantly of all, I know who to blame for spoiling my sims enjoyment after the recent expansion pack removed the ability to disable the censoring grid - fuck you Jack.

Likkle, if you like Stinkfist that much, i'm gunna have to hook you up with the live track with the altered lyrics, and amazing breakdown section in the middle. :)
