Neon Genesis Evangelion Discussion
Ok since I just now found out that it would be showing today I went ahead and made this. Hoping that someone who watch Naruto and posted would see the topic. Comes on right after S-Cry-Ed.
Dubbing wasn't all that good...but im sure they used most of it from the original American showing on Toonami awhile ack for Giant Robot Week. Ah strange how I can actually remember that during the oldschool Toonami days XD
Im thinking about dling the sub sometime. I heard that is gets really bloody and im not sure how much of it would be cut out.
Eh...first giant robot movie I ever saw where the robots weren't sluggish as hell. XD Then came G Gundam...you KNOW that had some controversial stuff in it! woohoo! Anyways...can't wait to see how the rest of the series turns out.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is classic for it's originality in story and view on robotic war machines. It's also well known to the old school anime otaku as the very first anime that broke into the market that touched on serious issues such as suicide and moral issues of death.
This series one of the most depressing and bloody on the market. I actually fell sick to my stomach after some episodes and the ending is more confusing that it is illuminating.
The two Evangelion movies, "End of Evangelion" and "Death & Rebirth", are much worse than the series and touch on the subjects of sex and psychological manipulation and distress much more than the series did.
The series was rated 17+ and the movies rated 18+ here in America last I checked, but that was some time ago. The rating may have changed. The unedited version of the series and movies are not for the feint of heart.
ADV has recently released remastered versions on DVD of both the series and the movies. The series is completed unedited and includes Japanese and English audio. I can say nothing of the movies.

Personally, I never really have cared much for Evangelion. After all, the series is not about giant robots; it's about man's struggle against God to try and prevent Armageddon, and how individual beings cope with that fact and themselves as they fight. The concept is cool and all, but everything is just so confusing and depressing near the end that I spent the last few episodes just staring at the screen with one eyebrow raised, totally lost. I've paid my anime dues; I've watched the complete series once already, and now that that is done with, I have no intention of watching it again.

Naruto has been on Japanese television for four years now. You're not going to finish it anytime soon... Buy a bigger hard drive.
XD
Their classification of "Angels" isn't what it sounds like. They're not actually from heaven, but since they came out of the sky on the original attack, they classified them as such.
The issue of God is not directly addressed, but is more or less there in between the lines. But it does deal with God and religion and morals towards human life.
To put all of my ranting about the series, and some of Rurouni's as well, Neon Genesis Evangelion, both the series and movies, are just some really fucked up shit the Japanese thought of that no one else did. As a result, it has become an instant classic. I'd buy the DVDs just becaue of that. However, since I'm biased against ADV, they can kiss my ass.
