The Phantom
The Phantom
So, what are people thinking about this :
I think it's going to be an interesting addition to the gaming community, and I plan on fully supporting it. 30 bucks a month for unlimited basic games, premium games you can try then buy, kick ass specs, a killer controller concept:
If you sign up for a two year contract, they give you hardware for free. 200 bucks or so for free...not bad. And if they go under, you're outta the contract
Any other thoughts on this, anyone else plan on picking it up?

I'm still pissed at all the bullshit Infinium and its CEO have pulled already, so out of principle I will not support it. But even just looking at the product itself, it's a computer. A computer with midrange specs and no upgradability.
Frankly, I see no advantage to the Phantom at all, and I think they still haven't shown us anything to get hyped about.
We'll see. I'm remaining very pessimistic about the whole thing. What good brand-new PC game is going to run on 256 megs of ram? How will they be able to get a "large library" of games? Surely they're not going to be able to just offer up console emulations? So it's limited to the PC side of things then? The specs on the Phantom are bs for the new stuff, think Half-Life 2 will run on 256 megs of ram? So they'll be limited to stuff that's a little older, but any family Dell can run older games. And an "always on broadband connection giving you digital content when you want it"? WTF IS THIS SHIT? It's called the fucking internet, and I've already got it.Infinium Labs' website wrote:and the broadest range of games, including a large library of the latest releases as well as difficult to find games.

I have spoken.
It ran UT2k4 better than my GeForce FX 5900 512, figure that shit out. It'll look a lot better than its specs give away for the same reason x-box does. It's not putting bullshit resources into other things, you just run a game.

Maybe that's just what they want you to think. C'mon, this is Infinium, they've been lying from day 1. No studio's gonna be dumb enough to make an exclusive for the Phantom. (unless Infinium is, as reported to be, loaded with cash) Though I never actually saw them advertising "exclusive titles" on the website, just "the latest games, and all the old classics". (if they did point it out to me)
I have spoken.

So, months later, still no Phantom. And now the world is caught up in "next-gen-console fever" and the Phantom has completely fallen through the cracks. Even if they did try to release now, they'd get so steamrolled by Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo it would be the end of Infinium. AHAHA you're fucked now, bitches! Go sue HardOCP again, or maybe Slashdot or Tom's Hardware.
I have spoken.
