Nintendo Diss!
“The idea of a handheld rivalry with Nintendo is an irrelevance. Those formats don’t appear in our planning. It’s not a fair comparison; not fair on them, I should stress. That sounds arrogant, maybe, but it’s the truth. Nintendo knows its target audience, because it has really narrowed that down; and it’s pretty much defined by a boy or girl’s ability to admire Pokémon. With the DS, it’s fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen. But I fear that it won’t have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick — so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that.” - Sony
yeah, well, at least Nintendo creates games instead of buying competition. Silly multimedia corporation wants to talk trash....
Hello, does Sony have a stand out hit that can be considered THEIRS???
Nintendo - Mario, Pokemon, kirby, Nintendogs, Pikmin, Zelda, Kong Family, screw that, i'm tired of counting.
Hey Sony, must burn you to see whenever there's a head to head game with Xbox, you are left with a game that looks like it was created on PS1.
just shut the fuck up and buy your games from hit making companies, like you did with Square. Btw, I think FF6 is still better from a storytelling perspective, than any of your "souped up" graphic intensive FF games.....and it's gonna suck with Square goes multiplatform....

Nintendo has been making rehashes of the same game for everyone of their own consoles since Super Mario Bros. for the NES.
Sony hasn't been buying any competition! Unless you're thinking of EA...
Also, PS1 graphics on a handheld are amazing. You have to see that. Even it's the worst 3-D graphics ever, they're 3-D, nonetheless, and in your hand.
Nintendo DS's games own PSP's though.
I totally disagree with the fact that Nintendo hasn't changed games since the NES. Far from it, and here's why. The Mario games have changed quite a bit throughout time. There were 3 types of platforming Mario games on the NES, although technically 2 wasn't a Mario game in Japan. They then added a rideable character and other moves, not to mention interesting twists like multiple level endings, etc. Then there was Mario 64 which defined the 3D platformer, and really introduced the true analog stick. Sunshine was again something different, an while it wasn't as well liked, by even myself, you have to give Nintendo for trying something different. For one, there wasn't the standard grass, lava, ice levels of every platformer which Mario helped make anyway.
Same could be said with other franchises. Zelda has changed. They've tried different looks, different gameplay, perfected the cooperative competition found in LTTP Four Swords and Four Swords Adventure, different looks and styles for the game, etc. Metroid is aanother good example. They perfected 2D shooters with Super Metroid. And when everyone bitched and laughed that Metroid was going first person, they ignored us and turned out one of the coolest, original games in a while.
That said, they also love trying new things, both have succeeded and failed. The Virtual Boy was a disaster, but the DS seems to be doing well. And only Nitendo would push for games like Electroplangton and Nintendogs.
I'm not trying to sound like a Nitnendo fanboy, but I wanted to back up my statement. I'll fully admit Nitnendo does some stupid things. Like not saying Anything on the Revolution, releasing the Classic NES series at too high of a price, and not near enough of what people really wanted. Many games were unlockables in other games for instance. Not going online with GameCube and instead pushing GC GBA connectivity this generation was not really smart. Sure there were cool games like Four Swords that pushed connectivity, but most was just a gimmic.
As for their competition with the DS and PSP, yes the PSP does look graphically better for some games, and it's expected. But I have to admire Nintendo for choosing to really do something different with both the hardware and software for the DS. And the fact that they have so many good franchises helps. Relying to much on them like they're doing with Mario in everything on the Cube now days, including EA games, isn't good. But they do have solid games people want to play.
OK, sorryf or the long rant/shpeel. But that's my thoughts.

Final Fantasy VII is my favorite FF game of all time, and one of my favorite games of all time. 6/3 was great, but nothing captivated me like VII. It was more the storyline, characters, battle system, and materia system that did it for me than the graphics. I also enjoyed FFX quite a bit. I'm really excited to see what Square does with the Next Gen, and really hope to see the FFVII remake in the near future.
