A guy I work with (a huge Batman fan) said that he felt he wasted his money seeing Begins, and urged me not to make the same mistake.
I'm still gonna see it, but his report kinda cancels out the rave reviews; I don't really know what to expect now.

Batman Begins
I think it actually helps not to have any expactations for a movie if you want to enjoy it. I think that was part of the problem with the Star Wars prequels, there was so much expectation for them. So, when watching Batman, just try to ignore everything you've heard about it and just take it in as you view it.

Yeah, I was actually happy to hear negative comments, for exactly this reason.weezerjedi wrote:I think it actually helps not to have any expactations for a movie if you want to enjoy it. And keep in mind that movies are not meant to massage the egos of the geek community or the respective fanbase of the type of pop culture it represents. I've read several fan reviews on different sites that made me think that people thought this movie was meant to appease certain audiences. It is only a writer and director's take on a certian franchise of pop culture. It is not supposed to represent the Biblical truth of the franchise, just attempt to see it in a new light.
I remember when X-Men came out and people kept bitching to me about how it wasn't EXACTLY like it was in the comics. It is not supposed to be, and if you don't like that don't see it. Just don't let that be your expectation, and see it for what it is and you will be fine.
Not saying it is terrible to follow comics closely, some choose to follow the original content rather than take a fresh view. I thought Sin City followed the original content more than any comic movie I've seen, and did so well. It can work both ways.
Weezer is right, just go see it for what it is, and not what you want it to be.

For comics huge comics like Batman, Superman, Spiderman, etc, I think it's pretty near impossible to follow the comic word for word, panel by panel, the way Sin City did. I think alot of it has to do with how old the original material is and whatnot. There's also huge amounts of cluttered and confusing continuity issues. There are so many revamps and retellings of origins for the characters. The characters have also been in the hands of countless writers and artists. For those titles to be made into movies, I think you have to make the story fresh and maybe add a new spin. Sin City on the other hand was a creator owned title that's only been ever written or drawn by its creator Frank Miller. Sin City isn't from the 50's or 60's so it doesn't used outdated slang or terms. Sin City was a miracle and something very special, but not something I see being followed to often since I don't think there are too many titles that can do what Sin City could and did do. By the way, the new Superman is shaping up to be AWESOME.
