Sometime I think Nintendo doesn't want to win.

They have the potential, but they're just like, "ummm...no, we're gonna have a sandwich."

I just remember hearing Nintendo saying how they've learned from their mistakes and all that. They didn't think DVD was a big deal last time around, and they were wrong. Now they are turning their back on HD? When will they learn to think ahead for new technologies (besides their own propriatary stuff), instead of being so happy with the status quo.

Indeed, well put. Especially since they have that lovely lunchbox to carry their sandwiches in.

I really don't think HD will make or break a system.

Man, Weez is not an easy fanboy to bait. I guess his faith in Nintendo runs too deep. :P

It won't. Honestly, the VAST majority of console gamers still won't own an HD capable set anyway this next gen. Look at any usage stats.

Me, I am disappointed because I have had HDTVs since 2001 and would LOVE to see a 720p Zelda. But I am not about to be a hypocrite and not by the Rev.

But remember, Nintendo will try to make money on hardware and debut with a $199 tag. Obviously the hardware won't be able to compete with the other two. THAT BEING SAID, the PS3 and 360 will have the burden of using a buttload of resources to quadruple the graphical output when running in 720p or 1080i. PC games running in higher res put more and more burden on the card.

Nintendo's philosophy is that factoring in performance drops when making it 720p+ capable should NOT be in the developers mind EVER when creating fun gameplay experiences. I completely agree. But the problem is, we have a buttload of gamers that are closet graphics whores that will blindly dismiss awesome gameplay in favor of pixels.

I mean, I guess we should all toss our GBAs.

Sure it's disappointing from an aesthetic sense, but anyone that says this spells imminent doom for Nintendo can't seriously call themselves a true gamer. Dissing online? Ignoring third parties? Then you can make a doom case.

They don't believe there is a race to be won at all. They believe they are in a class by themselves. At this point in the "race," you have to agree with them. The faster we old fans understand that Nintendo will never play the tech race game, the faster we can relax and just play Nintendo consoles for the awesome Nintendo games period.

Actually, I am becoming more and more comfortable with the big N becoming a niche. We don't need three consoles competing for the same casual Madden crowd. If I want innovation and something different, I want the Rev to be my go-to console.
Feel happy. Pee.

I really don't think this will hurt Nintendo that much either. If anything does, it will be other things that Nintendo has done in the past to fuck up their chances at beating Sony and Microsoft. They really don't like change. Just like Break said, they will not leave status quo.

I mean, High Definition is an amzing thing, but I have not the TV to support it anyway. I mean, I would think most "true" gamers should care about storylines and the actual gameplay more than fucking graphics. I think sometimes gamers are simply sellouts. We once had so much fun playing old SNES and shit with horrible graphics. I mean graphics were NOTHING back then and now we have sold out to businesses like Microsoft. Don't get me wrong, I love graphics in these new generations, but I'm worried people are only buying games now cause of the graphics, not for the gameplay that they bring.

Nintendo is going to do just fine with the Revolution. Unfortunately, "sell out" gamers might not buy Nintendo this go around. I, on the other hand, will be looking for systems that have GOOD games to release. That's all I care about...GOOD GAMES...that's what it SHOULD all be about anyhow.

My opinion.

Atticus has a point: The hardcore crowd probably won't let HD determine their fun level in the next generation. But more of the casual crowd might see it as something to brag about, to show off to their friends. Truly lame, but that's the way of pop.
