s-CRY-ed. Good or Bad?

Japanese Animation and gaming. They go together... like wangs and Penny-Arcade.

s-CRY-ed. Good or Bad?

Post by Zephie-chan »

I'm curious to hear everyone's opinion. I'm kinda in between my ropes here.

It is catagorized as a drama/mecha anime, and I dislike a good 80% of mecha anime... They just never appealed to me. However, if the rest of the series stays at least somewhat close to how this first episode is I don't think I'll have a problem.

I also have the concern that I didn't too much like the story development that episode 1 has displayed; it didn't catch my apt attention that most some of my favorite anime did. Sure it got somewhat interesting at the end, but at the same time this first episode kinds disappointed me. Somewhere in the league of Witch Hunter Robin. I got so VERY bored with that show and I never finished it though I watched a good 16 episodes...

I'm not going to pass a solid judgement until several episodes have passed. Who knows, I might find I really, really like this series. It's happened to me before, and I will admit to jumping the gun a little here (I'm still half expecting big, burly, Godannar-like mecha to jump out from absolutely nowhere).

There are very few mecha-oriented anime that I could stomach enough to watch all the way through, one of them of which I rank as my most favorite anime of all time. I just hope it doesn't go the same direction as Gundam Wing (sorry Wing lovers, I didn't enjoy it all that much, but it did have its moment).

Also of worthy note is that s-CRY-ed was animated by the same team that did Gundam SEED. They're currently working on its sequel, Gundam SEED Destiny, where their art has, surprisingly, changed ever so slightly from s-CRY-ed and their original Gundam SEED.

I like it. The first episode of Ghost in the Shell was confusing and dull for me but I kept on watching and found that I couldn't get enough of it.

Im still trying to figure out if the alters are an extension of the people themselves or if they are just like a higher powered being that is somehow physically or mentally attached to them that they can summon up like an Aeon on FF10.

It will probably turn out good. He will probably end up joining up with those people driving the bigass tanks...and possibly turning on them later when hes strong enough to beat them (at least thats what I would try to do *wink wink*). From what ive seen in the commercials hes going to eventually get stronger.

Thats robot hes currently fighting is like the perfect enemy....it can bend those blades or ribbons or whatever they are to block just about any attack and counterattack almost instantly. I would HATE to have to try to kill something like that (impossible to dodge bosses anyone?).

Yeah. I guess there are two things I'm biased about in anime: 1. The Dragonball series and all cheap knock-offs thereof; 2. Mecha anime with a pure focus.

When an anime is classified primarily as mecha, I get scared. I definitely wanna check and see how this turns out though as it probably won't be as bad as I'm trying hard not to imagine. I just get bad flashes of Godannar and Nadesico when I think about "mecha genre" and, to this day, I hate those a passion (not so much Nadesico because that was somewhat humorus it was so bad, so I bought it). I don't know how that was brought on seeing as how they were definitely not the first I ever saw... Meh.

I'm staying skeptical for the time being. I hope it'll be alright as I truly do enjoy the artists' work ever since I saw Gundam SEED (that favorite of all time I mentioned -- though mecha oriented, the depth of the story and how it's portrayed outweighs all dislike by an extremely large margin).

This rant may go a little off-track, but okay. So be it...

My definition of Mecha anime is something that focuses and is dependant on mech-type fighting machines. A good example of my 50/50 (Like and Dislike) is "Big O". I didn't like the series, but I didn't hate it, and I ended up watching it out of pure boredum.

Another one would be some of the Gundam series'. Such as G Gundam, and to an extent Gundam Wing as well... though in the end, I will admit, it turned out slightly better than I expected.

My absolute, 100% supreme dislike of mecha anime is embodied within a series called "Godannar". It is possibly one of the most absolutely fucked up anime that you'll ever see, and there were TWO seasons of it. "Godannar" and "Godannar: Second Phase". I mean what in the fuck, dude? How could anyone like that? Meh, it's me.

Nadesico's full name is "Martian Successor Nadesico". I have the boxed set as it was just so stupidly made I had to get it for nastalgic reasons... and to remind myself why I hate series' like that and why I also hate ADV Films. Too much mech fighting, too fucking stupid of a storyline, and just overall bad execution...

This, of course, is all my opinion. Many a people adore both those series' (more Nadesico than Godannar, thank the Greek Gods), but I personally can barely stomach Nadesico and cannot stand Godannar for 2 seconds.

Mecha anime with a pure focus: Anime entirely dependant of the machines of which the characters fight with, and little or stupidly thought out storyline and/or character interaction and development -- series' that wanna just wanna show off cool battle scenes with cool mecha machines.

Also on a side note, which a friend of mine pointed out to me on an IM, is that I probably judge Gundam Wing slightly harsely because I've only ever seen the English dub. Dubs can make or break an anime, and this is a very true statement, but I still stand by my decisions.

Its possible that hte anime will go into what alters are and how people are able to summon up these alters so its possible that it will have an in depth storyline.

Well it seems that S-Cry-Ed is starting to develope some sort of plot about the alters...whether its a gift or a curse...dude I would so love to be one of the 1 percent that had that ability.

The show seems to be picking up for me. The second episode had less battles and more of a story.
