Pretty much every company mentioned so far I'd agree with.
The 8 and 16 bit days were truely a golden age of gaming.
Nintendo
They pretty much revived the video game industry with some kickass games. SMB series, Zelda, Punchout, Metroid, etc.
Konami was definitely another favorite of mine back in the day. My favorites had to be their beat-em-ups. I'd kill for a classics compilation of these classics like Crime Fighter, TMNT arcade and Turtles in Time, the Simpsons,... Those alone are some of my favorites.
Capcom had a lot of greats too. I specially loved the Final Fight and early Street Fighter II series.
Ultra was another great one with games like Jackel
Tecmo was great too. Ninja Gaiden and Techmo Bowl are my favorites.
Some of my favorite games are from the 8 and 16 bit days, but I can't remember who developed the games. Here's a list of some more greats.
Wrath of the Black Manta
Blaster Master
Bionic Comando (Capcom?)
