You guys can call me slow or whatever, but I heard that if you buy an xbox starter kit for online after 1 year you have to start paying money. I just want to know if this is true. Thanks for your time.

The starter kit comes with a communication headset, the xbox live software, game demos, and a 1 year subscription to Xbox live. After that one year, you have to pay to renew, as you would when any other kind of subscription ran out.

Yup, Break hit the nail on the head. That is the exact Microsoft pricing for Xbox Live (hence the official word). I just thought I'd add my two cents in. For $50 a year, you'd have to be a fool to have broadband and an xbox and not get Xbox Live.
