And Farcry time and a bunch of other games time.

Hopefully the new computer is good enough to run them WELL.

I might have to upgrade the memory, but otherwise it looks good.

Hey, I might finally be able to turn the draw-in distance in Morrowind all the way up! :)

Well, as it is, pre-upgrade, the specs are...

P4 1.3 gig

256 megs RD ram

Geforce 4 MX 440

20 gig hard drive

Win XP Pro

Plus a 21 inch flat screen CRT monitor, optical mouse and keyboard

all for $200.

I know I have to upgrade, but I think I got a good deal.

Now to find some cheap RD ram (wish me luck). :?

Not a bad deal for the price. And your system should definitely be able to run HL2. I'd also recommend Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, also using the Sources engine. I've been hooked on that game for like 2 weeks now, and I finally just finished it. I want more first person RPG's like this to come out. I also finally just got the chance to pick up Morrowind GOTY eddition, and Arx Fatalis for cheap, so I'll be hooked on some older games for quite a while.

My system is much more powerful than Verence's specs, and Half Life 2 just barely runs.

I could probably build that machine around the same price, minus the flat screen monitor. Good Find!

The only problem (I've just now discovered) is the prohibitive price of upgrading RD RAM. It would cost another 200-some dollars to upgrade to 512 megs. :(

I'd be better off replacing the motherboard with one that accepts DDR Ram. :?

Oh well, I still got a deal, just gotta keep telling myself that...

No kidding about the RD RAM. That $200 could go a long way towards an Athlon 64 mobo and RAM to match.

No kidding. :P

Why the hell is RD ram so expensive? That's what I want to know.

As I remember, RD was expensive from the start; the upshot was performance advantages over the then standard SD. But DDR started making performance leaps, and RD went of the way side.

I'm guessing it's so expensive now because no one is willing to make more.

Yeah, I'm gonna go the new MB route. Prolly a nforce 3 or 4 chipset with a new CPU and RAM. I'm not sure how much I need to upgrade the video card. "Geforce 4 MX 440" is so cryptic, I'll have to do some research on how good it is.

Hell, I'm just going to sell this computer, keep the monitor, and build my own. :?
