The Sims Sales Figures

Post by Tarvok »

It doesn't surprise me that The Sims is such a hot seller. To judge it by the standards of another game (heck, to even LIST it with the others) doesn't seem fair. I would think it taps an entirely different market than the one this show represents... one of which I am also not a part.

Face it. It's a fish tank... but with "cool people" as its inhabitants. It's a "virtual dollhouse." I'm sure that would appeal to a lot of folks who are not "gamers" in the traditional sense, and that is where those vaporous numbers are likely coming from.

To be more clear, it's like comparing sales for Warcraft 3 with sales for Quicken or something... just not in the same department.

You've got a great point, but it still upsets me that my platform of choice is defined by such a limited genre. There are so many other amazing games for the PC that almost certainly won't be seen by Sims players.

Welcome to the boards, by the way. :)

I agree. The same thing happens with music. Crapshitfuckious music is on the charts with (rarely) some good music. As long as it's on the same chart, though, it's hard to put it in a different cataory.
