Anyone pick up or play this game yet? I'm very interested in the game, but I'm not sure if my machine will run it. I know it's using the Sourse engine that HL2 is using. However while HL2 runs mostly great on my pathetic machine, I read some reviews that say Bloodlines isn't as optomized and chugs a bit on even higher end systems. Any idea if I'd be able to play it?
Don't laugh, but my system is as follows:
Athlon 1.4 Ghz Thunderbird
512 RAM
Geforce 3
Enough HD space...
SB Live 5.1 Platinum.
I'd love to upgrade, but I'm beyond broke, so I won't be able to afford that for a while.
Thanks for the help though. Oh, and any idea if there's a demo coming for this game? That could help too.

I'm playing through it right now, and yes, it's really cool.
But it does chug quite a bit even on my system. Even though it is on Source, it really isn't optimized to the level that HL2 is. I'd definitely upgrade before you decide to play Vampire. Once you do though, you really ought to check the game out, because it's incredibly fun and really cool.

I just bought this game yesterday. I'm hooked. Like previously mentioned, the engine isn't optimized nearly as well as Half-Life 2 was, but RPG's were never really known for graphics were they? (save for KOTOR) I'm only about 10 hours in, but so far I'm really liking it. It's one of those things that strikes you as "beautifully dark and evil." The premise is fascinating and well thought out, and the plot is developing nicely so far. A lot of effort went into the game, that much is obvious. The combat is a little clunky but forgivable, and the voice acting isn't half bad. For any youngsters out there, the game is rated M for a reason, it's dark and violent. I can't wait till the watchdog groups get their hands on this, hehe, GTA lets you kill hookers, Bloodlines lets you take them to a back alley and stick a pair of fangs in them. The stat and skill system is good, letting you play a variety of different ways, much of this is influenced by the initial choice of which clan you're a part of. Anyway, more to follow later.
I have spoken.
Well, I got to pick up the game for really cheap the other day so I did, because I know I'd want to play it eventually anyway. It's running a little chuggy outside, but with some tweeks, it's not too bad, especially indoors.
I do have a bit of a bug question for you guys though.
I'm having problems using certain objects like cabnets and drawers. For example. In the beginning of the game I went to my fridge to get the blood packs from the fridge. That worked fine. I then went to the desk to grab the money from the drawer. I hit the use key and it just blinks open and then right back closed again. If I hold the use button the screen stays there, but if I click the Take button it doesn't because it's screwed up. I then went to the fridge to see if that was messed up, and sure enough, the door swung open and shut again right away.
So I don't have my money yet. I'm a bit further now, the haunted hotel, and I'm trying to get an upstairs key from a bedstand. Same damn thing, open and shut. Has anyone experienced this annoying bug too? Any ideas how to fix it? I have the latest drivers, game patch, and everything. I've tried re-entering the load zone thinking something was just temperarely screwy, but it doesn't work.
It's seeming like a great game so far and I'm getting pretty hooked, but this is really annoying. Once in a while I can grab stuff from these kinds of places, but mostly I have this bug.

I don't know about half-life 2, but I managed to play Doom 3 at anywhere from 2 to 30 fps. And my PC specs are as follows:
3.06 mHz Pentium 4
7200 RPM 80GB Harddrive
GeForce 4 graphics card with only 64 megs of memory
1024 MB of 333 mhz RAM
I'm sure I could get nearly 100% better peformance just by upgrading my video card, but I don't have the money yet. But I need to soon, cause soon they're going to stop making AGP cards. How do you all think halflife 2 would do on my current system?

Well, a little update.
It's not perfect, but I can play now at least. I wrote in to support just to see what they'd tell me and as I thought it was just rather genaric crap like drivers and re-installing the game with I did do anyway just because I was looking at thta as a last resort so I might not lose my saves and such.
I did re-install the game and didn't even put the patch on, so Ic ould see if that worked. Apparently my bug works like this. I enter an area and open one chest, fridge, or some kind of cubbord. I can open the first one fine, but anything after that is glitchy. I have to save and reload the game and then it works fine again till the next stupid item. It pisses me off, but at least I can progress and play the game till I can affford a better rig.
As for HL 2, your system will more than play it. Mine's a lot lower and it plays HL2 just fine.
