Fable or Feeble
Fable or Feeble
Ok, prepare for the shit storm. Now that I have accepted my future fate here, let me tell you about Fable.
This is supposed to be an open ended RPG but all I found was a drastically linear game, aside from shooting sparrows for evil points. Everywhere you tured there was something else I wanted to do but was forced in the storyline direction. At least in Zelda you could roam the seas or search Hyrule field without being pushed toward a certain area of the game. The same with Morrowind, the game sucked but you could roam freely.
Also, I couldn't upgrade my character for shit. Everthing in that damn game costs and arm and a leg from the start, none of the usual gradual increases that you get with other action RPGs. I would try to steal shit but the town guard would shoot at me. If you can shoot at me I should be able to whip your physical ass. These guards had no life meter and I myself almost blew a fuse in my brain with white hot anger. When the guards are pissed at you you can't do shit else in the town. I tried to get my hair cut and the bitch was like "No, get out." There needs to be the option of getting that wench to cut your hair while smoky is outside lookin' around for you. Seems like that would get your ass off the hook with Serpico out there and then you could give the barber a good tip.
Maybe I'm not the person this game is marketed towards. It seemed like Big Blue Box had a 3D platformer that they tried to mask with a MMORPG skin. I'm a big Zelda fan for the fact that the game elicits a since of discovery. Fable just didn't do that for me. It didn't hold my attention past the hype. This could also be a vice for me, maybe I shouldn't read hype.
At any rate I'm glad a still have my copy of Burnout 3.

Yeah, I am finding the linear-ness a little icky, but I do have a good time with the game, and I've maxed out skill and am on the way to maxing out strength, and I'm doing okay in will...when I go through on evil I will max Will out.
But I do agree that now that I'm most of the way through it, I am a little on the disappointed side, but that's okay, Chains of Promatia, Star Wars: Battlefront, Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War, and Kingdom Under Fire all come out Wednesday, can I borrow 180 bucks?

Currently Playing:
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (X360)
World of Warcraft (PC)
Hahaha, gotta love Aqua Teen.
I could seriously use a plan to get a couple hundred dollars because of all the great stuff coming out, and the more I hear and see on the DS I want it all the more.
About Fable though. It is a bit linier with a few choices to make. Who will you protect, bandets or the good guy? But overall it's still a damn fine game and a good start to a possible franchise for the XBox. I do agree about the paths though. I want to walk through the forests and hide behind trees and such instead of staying on a path.
I also like the idea of hiding out in a house or shop to get away from the guards. It can be a little hard to do bad stuff in town because if you don't immediately pay the fine they're after you. What would be cool too is if you killed all the guards, it would be a little while till more came. Then you could do whatever quick and get the hell out.
Still it's a good effort for the first try. It's still one of my favorite games for the system, and I know I'll be playing it through again a few more times. I just beat the game yesterday.

I just got Fable a few days ago. I must say its a good game, but it does not live up to the claims people made about it and the finished product did not seem like five years of dev time went into it.
If they straighten up and fly right, Fable 2 might rule us all, but that's a big if.
Plus they'll have Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion on Xbox 2 to contend with by then. That game looks to be worthy of bearing my children.
