Lindsborg chess showdown

Post by Jevin »

I was on the road Friday listening to NPR and a story came on about an upcoming showdown between the World Chess Champion Anatoly Karpov and Women's World Champion Susan Polgar. The epic battle starts this coming Saturday and will be held in... you guessed it... Lindsborg, Kansas. Richie, any chance you'll cover this "Clash of the Titans"?

Not a chance in hell. No offense, it's a decent idea, but I just moved OUT of Lindsborg, and there's no chance I'd make a special trip back for this.

Lindsborg within the last few years has become a huge chess center. They're even working on headquartering a professional chess league in Lindsborg. Anatoly Karpov is a professional chess player that's enormously famous around Lindsborg. It's all kinda funny, considering the town's maybe a couple thousand people.
I have spoken.

After reading your newspost the other day about you moving in with Jack B, I'm not surprised (or offended :D ).

Yeah, it's all about Anatoly Karpov. The dude came to town a few years ago to train for an upcoming international chess tournament. While there, someone got the idea into his head to stick around and run a chess school. Now people from all across the nation come to "train" with Anatoly.

It's a great story to tell, but I quit giving a fuck about chess about five years ago. Still, it's probably the one good thing Lindsborg has going for it.
