Kiddy Grade

Post by RurouniQ »

On the front page of Penny Arcade today is an ad for the first volume of Kiddy Grade. I've seen a little bit of this show back when it was in fansub so I thought I'd share my knowledge with those of you unfamiliar with the show.
Basically, imagine Gundam Wing, but without the robots (well, mostly) and replace the robots with girls. Girls with lesbian-ish overtones. Confused? Perhaps I should try the less direct approach.
The show is about a galactic government dealing with the political machinations (assassination attempts, blockades, etc.) of other planets through their elite forces division, which is comprised of teams of 2 girls, one to deal with the fighting, and one to deal with the computer side (i.e. superhackers). It sounds slightly boring, but the characters are well done, as is the animation (it's made my Gonzo, the same company that made Last Exile and Hellsing), and those yuri overtones (yuri = girl-girl love) keep those of the girl-loving perspective in focus. Later on in the series, I understand these overtones become more than just that, much to the pleasure of the friend that showed it to me and his bi wife. She wouldn't stop panting and waving herself after that.
If you like political stuff and you like yuri overtones, try this one; you'll enjoy it.

Not all of the teams are girl+girl match ups, which you learn later on in the series. There's guy+girl, and guy+guy match ups for the ES members. I have the first four volumes, it starts out kinda slow but picks up really nicely with some excellent plot twists which have got me securely hooked on it. I highly recommend this series to anyone looking to get into the anime scene, it's very well done and worth picking up in my opinion.
That's because I'm dishonest, and you can always trust a dishonest man to be dishonest. Honestly, it's the honest man you should look out for, because it's always the honest man who does something... ... stupid.
