A-Kon.  It’s the longest-running anime convention in the US.  This year was #19, and it was… glorious.  Even if you’re not an anime fan, the sheer amount of nerdocity in such a place is enough to make virtually any geek feel at home.  At least, on Saturday.  Friday is like a goddamn freakshow.

This was my fifth year attending A-Kon, with my primary reason for attending being the fact that I write music for it.  Yeah yeah, you heard me.  I write music for it.  Every year they have a banquet-brunch on Sunday and a string quartet at the banquet that plays anime themes.  I write the music they play.  I don’t get paid, but I do get a free pass to the con.

Anyway, I thought you guys would want to see some pictures I took from the con cosplayers.  Be entertained, and if nothing else, feel more adequate about yourselves. Keep in mind these were all taken with a cellphone-camera, so the quality might not be the best.  Deal with it.

More after the jump…

One of many Team Fortress 2 groups.

Every year I see at least one giant Mario enemy. Righteous.

Only at an anime convention can you yell out "Hey One Piece!" and have a group of people turn and pose for you.

Waiting in line for the Guiness World Record Video Game Cosplay event.

Where else could you see a giant Sonic, a Companion Cube Helmet, and Cid’s spear all together?

Sephiroth and BloodRayne… if they had babies, we’d all be dead.

What you’re not seeing is Peach’s cold dead hands, from which Samus pried that parasol.

Helloooooooo undead nurse!

The funny part was right after this photo was taken… the Orange Box cosplayers started chanting "Final Fantasy sucks!  Final Fantasy sucks!"

A damn good costume of our namesake.

I snapped the picture one second too late… one second after her skirt flew up.

I object!… to you not loving this picture.

Wow. Rock me like a hurricane.

Check it out, my very own personal Jesus!

Woah… I think they shrunk Winston.  And turned Igon into a girl.

Never forget that Cobra Commander loves the ‘tang.  He may act all metro, but deep down he loves the cooch.

And of course, last but not least… yours truly:
