It’s a good time to be in New York City. Not only is it one of my favorite places in the world, but the New York Comicon has just begun. You should be there. Here’s why…
Everyone knows about San Diego Comicon. It has become the media event of the year. New York Comicon is by the same company. As with SDCC, there much more than comic books enticing attendees. Gaming-wise a quick skim through the exhibitor’s list reveals 2K Games, Activision, Bioware, Capcom, G4TV, Nintendo, Square Enix, and Microsoft will be in attendance with booths in the exhibit hall. Another quick search reveals panel discussions for Final Fantasy XIII-2, Batman: Arkham City, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, and Halo: Anniversary.
If you live in or near the area, you should be doing everything in your power to go to NYCC. As far as east coasts gaming related events go, NYCC actually fares well against PAX East, especially considering that NYCC is not a video game focused event.
Comic book conventions across the nation have become nerd-centric events usually catering beyond the likes of comic book fans, and it shows. NYCC is a good example of how much variety is available at such an event. NYCC covers comics (obviously), anime, tv, films, and video games. I remember the first time I saw Gabe and Tycho was at a comic book convention. If you live in an area that has comic book convention, venture out and explore it. You might be surprised.
While you’re at it, if you’re in New York, I would recommend checking out the Nintendo World Store, Video Games New York, and Brooklyn’s Barcade.
