There is a niche title gracing the shelves of all types of gamers, and that is none other than Style Savvy: Trendsetters (SST) for the Nintendo 3DS. I was skeptical of picking this title up because let’s face it, how much fun can you have with just creating outfits? What kind of game is this really?

This game is about getting a job at a boutique and helping customers shop for clothes. At first your only customers are female, but later on men are introduced which gives this a nice variety. I myself have designed costumes and clothes; I’m pleasantly surprised at how this game teaches you to put together outfits. People playing this game who have no fashion “sense” will be able to see and learn that a cohesive outfit isn’t necessarily about matching colors—if the separate items match the style (such as edgy, pop, or bold) then you can still have a cohesive outfit. SST is really about building clothing designs based on a certain style. It revolves around the idea that if you stick to one style you will look good.

With a huge variety of clothes to choose from, this game does a great job of not alienating one area of style. Makeup and haircuts get added to the game later on, as well as the opportunities for fashion shows. I also think going with the anime-styled characters opens this game up to more people than if the characters were to be more humanized. This game is all about customization, from decorating your boutique to customers, every sim (or Sims) fan will be entertained with this hidden gem.

I thought I could only see myself playing this game for a few hours, but I have actually clocked around 15+ hours so far, and I’m still hooked! This game is great for a variety of gamers, and it might shock you that many gamer guys are finding this a fun title in-between the blockbuster releases. Whether you decide to pick this up now, or wait for the bargain bin, you will definitely get your money’s worth out of Style Savvy: Trendsetters (3DS).
