For subscribers to PlayStation Plus, the Public Beta for Playstation All-Star Battle Royale is now live, with plans to go live for non-subscribers on October 23. Access will continue to be available until October 30.
There’s just one problem I have with this.
It’s not the fact that it’s clearly drawing concept from other fighting games; this has never been enough to condemn any game as a point on its own. It’s not the lackluster, depthless fighting system; I’m a Dynasty Warriors fan, so in-depth control and design is not exactly a necessity for me.
How the hell can you call this a “Public Beta”? There’s a word, Sony, for releasing a game for free with a very limited number of characters (this contains 6 out of the 20 characters) for a limited amount of time. It’s called a DEMO. Get off the buzzword bullshit bandwagon and call it what it really is. A “beta” is something that is released to the wild for testing. You’re not doing any testing here, or if you are, you’re only doing it on less than a third of your stable, in which case I call that pretty piss-poor testing.
Yes, I’m being a cranky semantics-nazi traffic-cop. Fuck you. Call it what it is, not what your focus group thinks it should be because “public beta” tests better against your target demographic.

Now excuse me while I go download it.

Then I shall call it “poo” to squelch any further semantics argument.
