Out of nowhere, Bethesda has announced that last year’s hit RPG, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, will receive an update adding Kinect support to the XBox 360 version of the game. Don’t believe me? Check out their trailer (courtesy of IGN) below:
I’m curious if the voice commands are as delayed as those found in Mass Effect 3. Personally, I just don’t see the appeal in yelling at my television.

We’re pleased to announce that Kinect™ for Xbox 360® support is coming to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Available for free as a title update slated for release this month, Skyrim Kinect for Xbox 360 Support will feature more than 200 Voice Commands.
Adding a new dimension to Skyrim’s gameplay, the Kinect for Xbox 360 integration offers Voice Commands throughout the game including Dragon Shouts, Hotkey Equipping, Follower Commands, and all Menus (Items, Magic, Map, Barter, Container, Favorites, and Skills). With Voice Commands, quickly create and load saves during gameplay and access menus and inventories. Skyrim’s Kinect for Xbox 360 Support also adds new functionality including special map functions, additional hotkey options, and the ability to sort inventory items by name, weight, and value.

I would use this for one reason and one reason only – “Find Shadowmere”
The catch is, you have to be a big enough dork to shout these spells at your TV screen. And unless you live alone, someone is going to hear you.
Dude, we run a video game website. It doesn’t get much dorkier. 🙂 I say this with love as I would have it no other way.
This is coming from the same guy who argued that Kinect support would be the must have feature of “Mass Effect 3”.
I said it then and I’ll say it now: I do not see the appeal of using voice commands for a game, especially when they’re so inorganic. If a title was advanced enough that you didn’t have to communicate in stilted, unnatural language, then I would be excited.
