In response to flagging sales, Nintendo has announced overnight that the price of its main handheld console, the Nintendo 3DS will be dropping, and it’s dropping sharply. As of August 12, the price will plummet to $169.99. This is an $80 cut, from the previous price of $249.99.
The price in Japan will drop from ¥25,000 to ¥15,000, and in Australia it will drop from AUD350 to AUD250. No exact price has been set for Europe yet, but is expected to be dropped by about a third of the price.
Nintendo is sympathetic to the concerns of its dedicated followers who have already purchased the system, and anyone has purchased the system before the August 12 drop will be entitled to 10 free NES Virtual Console games and 10 free Game Boy Advance Virtual Console games. No specifics have been confirmed for which games will be made available, but the NES games will be available after September 1, and the GBA games will be available a short while after.
And now, for the editorial portion of our article:

Q SMASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, as if I weren’t pissed enough at Nintendo at this point. In this writer’s opinion, they have truly pulled a Sony with the 3DS. We’ll see whether or not they make Yoshi’s Island one of those free GBA games, and whether the prospect of portable Yoshi assuages my burning rage.

You know, they sell cream for that burning rage…
Good news Q!
