I work at a comic book store and help run weekly Magic the Gathering events. At a Friday Night Magic event held earlier this year, I enlisted the help of some fellow Magic players to create the card here. The key component and inspiration for making the card was the artwork. The artwork by Tan Guang Yu was featured in a Megaman Dark Ages Redesign contest held by CGHub. As soon as I saw the artwork, the first thing I remember thinking was how much it looked like Magic the Gathering card artwork. The card’s abilities are unfortunately overpowered, but I’m pretty proud of the overall look and flavor.
If you’re not into Magic the Gathering, there’s a few reasons why you might consider checking it out. Magic the Gathering: Duel of the Planeswalkers 2012 on XBLA, PSN, and Steam not only serves as an excellent introduction to the card game, but it’s a pretty decent game itself. Unlike previous hot card games like Pokemon, Yu Gi Oh, and Star Wars, Magic the Gathering has never waned in its appeal and playability. Magic the Gathering has been around since 1993, has gained massive popularity throughout the years, and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. You will always find people who collect and play Magic the Gathering. I like to think of Magic the Gathering as a nerdier version of poker. As much as luck may be a part of the game, strategy is arguably even more important.
