Greetings, Dear Reader,

Remember “Metro 2023,” that exclusively single player FPS that came out a little while back? Well, THQ certainly does, and it seems they’re back with a vengeance for a sequel, “Metro: Last Light,” scheduled for 2012. The original didn’t exactly fly off the shelves, and the reviews landed somewhere in between bipolar waves of support and criticism, but I guess they really feel there’s untapped potential in the franchise. The press release calls the original a “flawed masterpiece,” and chocks its failure up to insufficient marketing on their end. I’m not sure it was quite that simple, but I admit I’m a little shocked at how honest and self-deprecating THQ is being. They must really think they have something special here.

I admire what they’re doing here. It’s a surprisingly self-effacing and almost sweethearted play, and their humility in taking the fall for “2023’s” tepid response is admirable. This is just refreshing behavior all around. Word is, “Last Light” will be featured at E3, and just so you know, THQ, I’m going to give you some special attention on this one. I like it when people stand up for something they believe in, and if you guys show me a product worth getting excited about, I’ll be there for you.
