The forums have been a buzz on some talk about X-Box 360, its lauch titles, and its subsequent releases. General consensus has been that X-Box 360 titles have only been better than their X-Box counter parts. Oh, and there’s the other bit about most X-Box 360 titles are also available on X-Box or are multiplatform.

This is why X-Box 360 suuuuuucks and why Nintendo has got the right
idea with Revolution. True, launch titles and first gen titles usually
don’t pump out every bit of power out of a system. But let’s look at it
this way…years from now, when developers have learned the ins and
outs of every console, the best they can do with X-Box 360 and PS3 is
make the same old games that look really nice. It’s really hard to come
up with a new genre, a new twist on a genre, or pretty impossible to
come up with a new way to play a game (without extra peripherals). Take
a look at X-Box 360’s controller or PS3’s controller. They don’t have
anything different about them that effects gameplay. In fact, they are
fundementaly the same as their previous counterparts. The Revolution’s
controller is the next step in control. From joystick to d-pad, from
d-pad to control stick, we now have 3D field control. It’ll be up to
the developers themselves to see how well it pans out, but I don’t see
why they wouldn’t be excited to do something with this. Think of it as
how much impact the mouse and GUIs had on computers. But don’t forget,
Revolution can still support traditional control stick control with the
traditional controller cradle. The traditional control cradle will be
something similar to a Wavebird, but even better, it still has the 3D
field control of the Revolution controller. SO…you can still play
games on the Revolution the same old way, but with extra functionality.

In then end though, it’s the games that will determine the
greatness of the console. But that’s the thing about Revolution, all
the new functionality will make it exponentially easier for developers
to create new genres and experiences. Great graphics will not impress
me until we surpass the uncanny valley of photorealism. Until then
graphics are still just an impression. I’m not concerned with graphics,
I’m concerned with gameplay. *end fanboy rant*
