But then, after I calmed myself, I realized that GameSpot's score of 8.9 for Gran Turismo 4 wasn't so unreasonable. Atticus brought the review to my attention, and I was immediately filled with hatred. I had just got done adding tuner specialty suspension and racing slicks to my Nismo 400R Skyline, bought with the money won from owning the Japanese 90's series, which was raced on Japan's greatest courses, like Tsukuba and Fuji. How could anyone running on half their cylinders even think to give GT4 an eight point fucking nine?
The car selection has no rival. The tuning options are limitless. The physics are unparalleled. There are so many great additions, like authentic courses and classic cars. Then there are some not-so-great additions, like nitrous and wings, obviously a nod to NFSU. But, at its heart, you're still doing the same thing you were with the first, second, and even third games. It is, essentially, a rehash.
So, the 8.9 doesn't bother me so much in the end. But don't my pessimism fool you: You'd be a fucking moron to pass up Gran Turismo 4, racing fan or not. It great in every aspect, and has something for everybody. This is THE excuse to buy a PS2 if you don't own one already.
