One of the games that I was extremely interested in way back in 2003 when it was first announced was Oddworld Inhabitants' Stranger's Wrath. It seemed back then that it was going to be taking the Oddworld series in a new direction, that only Lorne Lanning, the head of the studio, and his great team over there could possibly come up with. With a mixture of 1st-person shooter and 3rd-person platformer, this seemed like an idea whose time had come. I mean, who doesn't want to solve Mario-esque platform jumping and then switch to FPS and start wailing on guys with guns.
Oh wait…Stranger hates guns. What?!? Jack, if he hates guns, then how is it an FPS? Well, I'll tell you. Stranger uses a crossbow which he equips with Live Ammunition. And when I say live ammunition, I mean LIVE. You literally walk around the environment looking for various critters just kind of scampering around, and you can use some of your default zapflies to stun them and add them to your bag o' ammo.
Some of the critters are truly ingenious, like the Chippunks, little rodents that basically talk shit to get the bad guys to come to them, sort of like distractions. Once you've managed to distract the bad guys, you can use your bolamites to wrap up the bad guys, and suck them into your vacuum of justice to take back to the bounty store, since you get more money for capturing baddies alive than if they were dead.
I really can't wait to get my hands on this game, mainly because it just looks so cool, and the reviews so far have been pretty positive. I just can't wait to get back into the world of Oddworld.
