Digg!

I know I touched on it during the show, but I wanted to emphasize just how much I am enjoying Metal Gear Solid 1.  The more I play it the more I wish I could've gone on this adventure when it was new and fresh.  All I can say is that I cannot recommend it enough, especially in the Collection edition.

Moving on from that I will say that I've been playing an number of othe high quality games both old and new.  One that has really been on my front burner is Street Fighter Alpha 2.  My love for the Saturn controller has been well documented throughout history, but combine that with a 2D fighter and I am absolutely enthralled.  This is my absolute favorite way to pull of a Hadouken.  The Street Fighter series has evolved into something that I'm not necessarily excited about, except for the upcoming Turbo HD and IV, and I feel that Alpha 2 was the last one that I really loved.  After that too much was added or taken away for me to care.

GameCenter CX has dominated  both of my DS screens with much joy as the result.  The idea that a game could actually simulate my childhood is both odd and somewhat insanse, but this game managed to pull it off.  If you lived in the 80s and owned a NES then you must have this game.

This week also marks the release of Final Fantasy Tactics A2 for the Nintendo DS which excites me.  I love the Tactics series and can't wait to play this iteration.  The spells look absolely delicious and... well it is more tactics.  I am not hoping for any great story like the PSX version, but just some more great gameplay.  If there is a good story then that is just a plus.

If you really love The Game Show, I highly suggest that you listen to the next two shows as you might regret doing otherwise.  Definitely some material worth listening to if you enjoy us.

2007 was a really amazing year for games, and it seems like the library, quality and excitement level are only growing.  We are now in the middle of this gen and it is gloooooorious.

Are we really already in the 'middle' of this gen? With the Wii still being impossible to find, the 360 just now not exploding, and the ps3 just finding its niche, it doesn't seem to have lost that 'next gen' gloss yet.
That, and honestly I haven't been bowled over by the sheer number of awesome games yet. There's still so much filler being put out there. I had a friend ask me to recommend a shooter the other day, and I could only recommend like 3, maybe 4 titles to him of any quality.
After this Christmas, then maybe I'll admit that we're in the middle.

The current gen begins when all the systems are released, technically. Any reference to next-gen refers to systems that are not yet released, although it can sometimes be used if not all of that gen's consoles are released. Like the PSX and Saturn were still next-gen until the N64 was released. Once all three were out, the SNES etc. became last gen.

I know many people tend to think of the newest console as next-gen for a very long time, and there is nothing wrong with that. It is just not the "official and accepted" terminology.

With the average console span lasting around 6 years and the 360 launching almost 3 years ago (November 22nd, 2005) it puts itself, statistically, in the start of the middle of this gens span.

On a more personal level, being in the middle of the gen means to me that all 3 systems have a game that can be considered a system seller for a large number of people. The Wii has Galaxy and a few others, the 360 has Halo3 and its clones as well as some good RPGs, and the Ps3 now has MGS4. I would say that all three of those games have a very polished "this gen" feel.

Many, myself not being one of them, called 2007 the best year in gaming in 10 years. Similarly, when the PSX was released September of 05 and then 07 saw the release of FFVII and 1998 saw the release of Metal Gear Solid, I would say that would mark around the midpoint of that gen with the following gen beginning Fall 2001 which was 6 years later than the previous gen had begun. The SNES came out in 1991 and the n64 in 1996 so it seems that the gen span is technically getting a little longer.

I think 2007 is a lot like 1997 as that was the time many people started joining that generation with FFVII and many other great games. The delightful welcome to the mid-point.
